this is some more cutting footage from last weekend with Hiroshi. I knew I was missing some of it.
I had a really hard time cutting with Hiroshi's PC Bushido but I did really well with my Atrim 1429

What are your thoughts on the Bushido, it's always been my number 1 favorite Hanwei blade.

well, it's certainly a beautiful sword. I won't hold against it that I couldn't cut well with it. it is balanced well and seems pretty solid. I wouldn't worry about it much when cutting any traditional target. about the only thing I didn't care for about it was the shape of the tsuka. it was to narrow for my tastes. It is a 6 year old 1st generation model though so I couldn't say what the newer versionsare like. ultimately I wouldn't spend the money to buy one but I can see why some people would. it's just not a sword that speaks to me.

Tom: Ouch! I can tell you what your issue is with the bushido. You need to cut in at a straighter better angle, cutting from waki na kamae when you have no formal training is an extremely difficult task which is why it got flung across the yard like that. You also need to bring your tip speed up so your blade cuts smoothly. Katana are designed for clean smooth cuts, add some draw to you cut and you might have more success. Roshi: Good to see you amongst us, I look forward to seeing more from you

Wow , Thats the first time I've ever heard someone say a Hanwei tsuka was too narrow.... Usually its the opposite,
Tom, your form with the katana looks pretty good.. almost like you are concentrating on it a bit too much...
Like BW says, you need to get your tip speed up.. it almost looks like you are decelerating in the cut.... your tosen and ha suji seem fine.... I think that you are just decelerating a bit, trying to make "compact " cuts...
Of course take my advice with a grain of salt... someone like Socho would be the one to listen to....

Also try to loosen up a bit more and just flow with the cut, you seem a little rigid, which is understandable with a new blade.
Marc: who is Socho?

thanks for the advice guys. I have to admit I was a bit intimidated and worried that I might mess up such a nice and expensive sword that I don't own. could have been nerves.

LOL,
just make sure you pry my cold, dead fingers from the hilt before you sell it.
no matter how much you get for it, I promise, it will not cover the medical bills.
