did some cutting last Sunday. my form, power, and blade speed suffered do to muscle soreness from being beaten up by work, the dojo, and doing a lot of sword swinging lately but hey, why would I let that stop me from cutting?
First up my new favorite katana the Hanwei Practical Katana Light. I have put this sword through some seriously heavy cutting and it is stil going strong. I have been inspecting it before and after I cut every time lately. this is a habit I fell out of not long ago and have recently resumed.
let me just say this to everyone: INSPECT YOUR TSUKA BEFORE YOU CUT. Not just the first time but EVERY TIME. So far there hasn't been a tragedy in the SBG community because of this but if people don't inspect it's only a matter of WHEN not IF it happens.
ok with that aside on to the vids:
I tried my hand at cutting a single tatami roll with my new Albion Norman sword. I didn't do all that well, but I didn't do too badly. I'm not as fan of this sword. there isn't anything wrong with it really it just isn't my flavor of sword. that's why I'm trading it to Shooter Mike who, I am sure, will soon show how to REALLY cut with this sword. should be interesting to see the difference the swordsman makes. here's my uninspired cutting session with it.

Hey Tom... I noticed your resheathing your blade without much or any wipedown... is your mat not wet at all? Don't worry about ShooterMike... he makes *ALL* of us look bad everytime he puts out a cutting vid. I bought the Windlass Ulfberht bassed on watching his cutting with it... and while it's a great sword and I'm glad I got it... I can't help but think "But... but... why won't it cut for me like it did for Mike?' Answer... Mike is the man. I, am not the man. What did you trade for, if I may be so bold?

yeah I didn't wipe down the blade right then. yeah my mats were wet. I cleaned the blade thoroughly when I got done and left the saya open (no sword in it) under a hair drier on low for quite a while then left the saya open with out the drier for another 24 hours. I think I got it dry. I hope I did. oh trust me I'm not worried about being out-cut by Mike, I just know I can cut better than that.
as for the trade, well it isn't finalized yet as I still have the Norman in my livingroom and Mike still has his side of the offering but let's just say there is a capitol A involved and I think I'll be very happy with the trade. more info will be shared once the trade is complete.
