That was pretty good. I got a good laugh when he messed up the second vertical roll and nearly threw it at the girl in the back. Her reaction was quite humorous. Dangerous, indeed. Shouldn't have been there.

very good, this is something we can all try with the paper rolls. I don't see how that's possible though, there is no weight to the paper and the slightest touch should knock it over...specially when it's a roll, there is more surface area your sword will be contacting when you cut.

Thats the point of the display... it require PERFECT form ... very few could do it... Miura Sensei is the only one I know of thats ever done it... surely there are others ... but noone knows of them... In his words....

Wow, that was beautiful. I have seen those pics around, but I don't think I have ever seen that video. Thanks Marc Cutting hanging paper is challenging, but freestanding rolls? Uh, speechless... I like Miura Sensei

..So? Lets see you cut free standing rolls of paper, I tried a few times when I got my shinto, it's not easy that's for sure. Multiple rolls? Bah, he's a master.

i remember watching one of those world's strongest men competitions back in the day. these guys were lugging around anchors and flipping over poles and hauling refrigerators around. it looked so simple i thought to myself, "hell, i bet i could do that". a few seconds later i thought, "you're an idiot."
every thing seems easy when done by an expert.

Amazing video, perfect form, true masterhood. An inspiration to try and do it ourselves as well.
Regrading actually doing this amongst ourselves, here's a quote...
“I worked hard. Anyone who works as hard as I did can achieve the same results.”
From Johann Sebastian Bach after being asked how does he write and perform his music.
I for one will practice my ass off till I can achieve this ;D

Awesome, thankyou for posting!
Tom, What cuts have you tried? I have had a single success with a vertical cut... alas the wind prevents regular training for me.

I would like to apologize to everybody who was offended by my post. I was not trying to say that what he is going is easy, I was just saying that multiple layers weighs it down a little and made it easier to cut. Comments deleted.

Sean, Vyapada, thanks for the votes of confidence but I must practice more, probably MUCH more before I can do that cut or anything remotely like it. I tried taking a sheet of plain printer paper, rolling it into a tube and cuting it. I held it closed with one tiny bit of scotch tape. I need to find some newspaper and try that, but I don't get a paper normally. I've also been stupid busy and will likely remain so for a little while. I'm getting ready to put my ship into emergency dry dock and I'm getting ready to move across country. yeah, I'm busy.
Vyapada, I'm very impressed by that single success but I'm afraid a vertical cut might not be as hard if your cut starts on the edge of the paper. this guy's cut starts in the center of the paper on a smooth rolled surface. that's MUCH harder to cut than the edge. still I'm impressed cutting the edge isn't easy either.

Thanks for the kind words! I have been busy myself so sorry for the late reply. Surely, I think the vertical is easiest type of cut for this medium - /index.cgi?board=cutting&action=display&thread=5567&page=2#98911 Miura is amazing.
