did some test cutting with good old #8 and I have to say she did pretty well. the KI is such a light sword (2lbs 1oz) that it takes a lot of snap and tip speed to make it cut right and not lose critical speed while still in the target. fortunately since she is so light tip speed comes quick and easy. take a look:

yup, I'm starting to feel more confident that it isn't going to shatter on me. cuts like a hanwei from the feel of it so far.
cool Debbie, I hope to see you cutting with yours real soon. I hope you'll like it. how does it compare to your musashi for weight? KI is lighter I bet.

GREAT video Tom... big time +1 for showing us so much cutting with the Kokoro Ichi. It looks like most of your victems are of the 'Mt Dew' strain of Zombie waterbottle... much like mine are. I hope to figure out my damn camera soon... and you will see my home is overrun with these Mt Dew bottles... and I hope to make them pay as you have. ;D

Tom, The KI and the Musashi are almost the exact same weight. I haven't taken the KI to the lab for an accurate measurement, but they feel almost the same to me. The balance is very close as well. My #6 KI is a bit more forward balanced in handling. FYI, niku looks the same on both. So, how about some PK light vs KI thoughts? It is supposed to get warm today, but it is not happening fast enough so far. A random thought about empties...I think they may encourage an over emphasis on speed. I haven't done the comparison yet my self (just tried one empty so far), but I was curious to hear what you may think since you have done lots of both. But hark, I hear hubbie scraping the driveway off?! I am off to help Deb

Great vid Tom,... glad to see the sword has decent enough performance for your cutting needs. I have only used mine for kata (so far), but have hours & hours into handling it and its always enjoyable.
I wouldn't worry too much about it shattering on you, i had heard you buried it in the stand and the blade wasn't even so much as scuffed? Is that the part in the video, or was that a different time?

Kokoro Ichi vs. PK Light? I will be posting a comprehensive comparative review of all the katana I have handled. I have to cut tatami with my PKL and KI today and then I'll start compiling the information.
James, I show a light hit at 4:17, clipping a good bit of corner off at 4:31 but I did not have the camera rolling when I buried it like a hatchet in the end of the horizontal piece. I also did the same with the Hanwei PK Light. yeah I'm not worried about it holding together anymore. between the KI, PKL and Kaze I chopped that entire horizontal 4x4 into kindling.
KI is pretty tough, maybe not as tough as something TH and solid bodied, but for having a bohi and only being 2 lbs 1 oz it is amazing.
