There was a gun and knife show in PA, decided to go over and take a look. Alot of neat guns and stuff, had a guy selling extendable batons, made in taiwan but amazingly sturdy. I gotta say they are VERY cool toys .

I agree! I have a pair of the ASP tactical batons and love 'em.

I have one as well. I never leave the house without it. It is verrrry strong, despite it's construction, which I doubted at first until I tried it on my punching bag.

I like these, not that I'd ever even consider carrying one on my person. Maybe in the glovebox in case of road rage issues or zombie apocalypse... but I think they're illegal here anyway.

I've been considering one myself.. is there any real difference between the ASP brand and the lesser known models? Aside from price, obviously. They usually look identical except for some cosmetic features.

Well, depends on how well it is made. Mine is not ASP... I don't think so anyway. It is strong, I made sure to use it on my punching bag first. I thought it would bend, because of the construction, but man is it tough.

Under the new laws, very illegal. Felony that will result in prison time. I'm pretty sure that also applies to 'car carry' although chances are that it'll only be found if you're forced to use it or get in a major accident. You can own it, no problem though.

Drastic measures require drastic actions. My excuse is that I am just transporting it to a friends, or I just bought it and did not know if I should hide it, or carry it on the outside, and just assumed hiding it till I got home would save me a lot of trouble.

Ignorance is never a viable defense according to the law. Besides you live in Canada! Depending on where you live the worst thing that can happen to you is a rampaging moose. In that case a baton won't help. lol
Seriously though I'd suggest to everyone that prior to actually carrying a weapon, concealed or otherwise, you check out the laws in your area and the area(s) you are travelling to and around. If its illegal anywhere you intend to be you must be aware and be willing to face the penalties if you are found with it. Remember that while you may just be carrying in defense of yourself you are still breaking a law if it is prohibited. Don't do the crime unless you're willing to do the time!

Oh come on! Not the moose jokes... But I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. A lot of angry gangbangers here. And I doubt they would tell the cops or even remember me for that matter. And it is not as if I am attacking them.

Yes there's a big difference between the cheap one's and ASP. I wouldn't trust the cheap one's, in my years of being a police I've seen too many of them break. Get a ASP or a Mondock

Like Salinger here in Queensland, OZ you pretty much cant do anything but hope you can run like the wind or just sit there and take it if faced with an adversary ......... even picking up a stick and whacking them could get you charged, but a judge might rule that if they left you alone or didnt break into your home etc then it wouldnt of happened its just part and parcel but still never greatly in your favour. You can carry an extendable baton only if your a cop or licenced security officer (as in higher then mall security) or maybe bodyguard. I carry a small pocket knife but only because I work in a job with boxes and stores work so I can essentially say if I'm to and from work that "Its for work I dont leave it there in case it gets nicked"

We all had ASP 21" or 16" models. A woman in the class had purchased a baton, a cheap knockoff, at a recent gun show. It did not appear very robust. Sure enough during that part of the course where we had to beat on a heavy bag to develop power strokes, her baton bent. She finished the course with a borrowed ASP. I like my ASP--the 21" electroless-nickle model. I added a nickle finished grip cap for a more secure striking grip: It replaces the flush mount cap.

I've been carrying the 21" ASP for the last several years, I am quite fond of it.

I've never found batons to be that impressive, I'd rather have a koga or a kubotan personally. I find that unless you have a military grade extendable baton the other guy is going to laugh at you while you hit him. Also anything useful defensively is illegal in South Australia, not that I really need a weapon, bout the most you might run into here is a bikey or an emo and we all know how emo's are with knives, more likely to cut themselves and then whine at you about how unfair life is til your head explodes!
