Afraid? Nah... I just recognized that the reason The Squid doesn't have more to thump chest about is because Marines do his dirty work? If when you say 'do his dirty work' you mean scrub the head and do the wash and all that... well yeah, of course. Someone has to do the grunt work, thats what jarheads are for right? ;D

I belive there are a few submariners on this site. Count me in! USS Augusta, SSN 710. I got on board late in 2002 until the end of my enlistment. What a odd coincidence. I wonder if there's a connection between submariners and reasonably priced swords... hmmm...

That would be Gunnery Sergeant Hartman (your senior drill instructor!) I've got a 12" talking figure of him autographed by R. Lee Ermey himself. One of my prized possessions.

You used to be able to order them from his personal website, signed and everything. I'm not sure if they're still available though.

There was a thread awhile back... can't recall which one just now... where it was revealed that there is not only a large contingent of Navy and Coastie members here... but a surprisingly large amount of Submariners specificly. I have NO idea why. USS Augusta huh? Thats funny... I live in Grovetown next to Ft Gordon... which is... drumroll... in Augusta Ga. Heh.

Weird coincidence indeed. The boat is actually named after Augusta, Maine though. I know, I know, not nearly as exciting. Now that you mention it I think I do recall perusing that thread back in my "lurking" days.

I grew up in the Army so I have some idea or the military life and it's demands and rewards. I am just glad that all of you have been and are out there on the wall guarding our line in the sand. It says something about a person that volunteers to spend part of their life in harms way for others. It makes me proud to stand under the flag that you serve. Just had to get that off of my chest. Back to the other guy bashing that we were enjoying!

As I'm sure you know... the Army/Navy football game was recently. Where I am at Ft. Gordon we do a little Army/Navy game of our own... as do many commands that have both Army and Navy present. Well... as is normal... even tho Ft. Gordon is an Army base and their are thousands and thousands of soldiers there, and only around one thousand saliors... Navy beat their ass once more. Go Navy! ;D
