Hi everyone ! I'm new to this site, but bought my cheness tenchi thanks to Paul's destructive tests on u-tube. I'm hoping you guys could recommend me a wakizashi ? I'm struggling to find any reviews and am in fact struggling to find a sword ! Priorties are 1. Functional 2.Within price range ! 3.Preferably NOT hanwei or cheness 4. Real hamon would be nice 5.Available in the uk ? Not asking that much am i ? ! tsuka length and fittings are not important as i plan on customizing it anyway ! hope you can help

Hmm... no idea on price range since you didn't mention it but you mentioned having purchased a tenchi so I'll assume in that price range.
Yep - good luck on that mate!
Oh btw, welcome to the forum. ;D

I still have mine from handmadeswords.com, but the katana that came with it is extremely crappy, and the wakizashi is epoxied to the handle. No go there.
And what price range are you shooting for?

hey chopperknob (am i saying that right?) im in the UK i highly reccomend checking out www.rgwhandforgedkatanas.co.uk tell him Ric sent you UK stock of cheness, hes just taken up imperial forge & thatsuki nihonto, and hes starting up with dynasty forge asap (on my reccomendation lol) if this guy sells it, then i garantee you that you will pay less buying from him, than you will trying to import whatever piece/s yourself and dealing with customs. not to mention hes a really sound guy. dynasty forge (who are absolutely top imo) have a $250 ko katana right now (i was just thinking about ordering one of these myself) www.dynastyforge.com/index.php/Close-out-Factory-Seconds/23.5-1060B-Ko-Katana-with-Bo-Hi-in-Koi-Theme/Detailed-product-flyer.html as for a wak, id say the only uk stocked choice is cheness. other than that i like the look of kris cutlery wak's, and they are pretty cheap! but youve got to put up with customs etc... welcome chopperknob, your name has made me laugh twice, so far, have your first karma.

i dunno really lol, its just a number on the left.
as for the 100 range katana available here, if you mean like those blades UK 'buk' ones, then they look seriously cheap fittings wise... what other cheap-ish swords do you know of over here?

Well thanks for the karma anyway ,if i knew how to reciprocate i would !Im new too all this internet /forum stuff, bit old fashioned i suppose ! Blades uk seem to have some interesting stuff though have you seen those Kawashima blades ? sure the're not really japanese but ...... also swordmart.co.uk has some musashi and masahiro stuff .Thanks for the dynasty forge link though,ko katana looks good, saves the tsuka mods for me anyway ! !

rod will prob get those df ko's for like -£200ish
but trust me when i say dynasty blades are stunning.
as for kawashima, its the low end of katsumoto like masahiro is for ryumon
and in all honesty, they both suck.
musashis seem decent for the cheap price on em, but i dont call 'swordmart's prices cheap, and dont even have any new stock, ie these $80 DH blades.

Out of curiousity, how do you go about getting a sword from across the border? Seems like the info that would be good to know...

1- the sword needs to meet the status of 'traditional' 2- you need to aquire a sword licence 3- you need to write several letters to customs explaining the above 2 criteria have been met 4- you need to pay customs a hefty chunk of money to retrieve the sword from them
overall; it sucks

Yeah and you Brits think you've got it better than us... lol Seriously though I'd hate living in the UK. Gun rights don't exist and sword rights are near non-existant too. Next they'll be banning baseball bats...
