If you live in an apartment complex and don't have access tp thing like a garden hose, the bath tub works well as a fill station.

Heheh - it'd be like shipping tatami, or worse!
I had a little grove of cold hardy bamboo right behind my house that I had before my divorce. My ex got the house and ended up having all of that dug up and paved over for a patio. It pissed me off to no end since I spent 5 yrs cultivating that grove to the point where it was producing 3"-6" diameter stalks on a regular basis. Perfect for cutting.

I agree cutting empties is good. you know you did things right when those cut well. I wish I had access to bamboo. just cut it once and I'd love to do it again. it felt a lot differnet than tatami.

I keep a bunch of empty gallon milk jugs next to the washer drain in the utility sink. Catch the rinse water from the wash..it's "grey water" but not anything terribly wrong...just recycled again to fill jugs.
