I thought I might bring this a bit over from the DSA vs CS thread in European and generalise the topic:
QUESTION: What is BEST Cold Steel USA blade you have or could own AND would reccomend to a friend (or even buy again if it got destroyed) ?
Now I'm talking folders, fixed blades, their swords (which are a big topic of comparison in the sword community) or even their spears and tomahawks. To you what is the one thing Cold Steel does best for you ?
My Two Cents: I own CS Light Cav Sabre, CS Napoleon Sabre, CS Naval Cutlass, CS SK5 Carbon Laredo Bowie.
My favorite, the Laredo Bowie. So sharp, so light, cuts bottles better then the sabres, and I love its utility aspect. Would trust my life with it. The sabres are quite heavy, unbalanced and dull (even after hours trying to sharpen them right).
Over to you guys ........

Nothing wrong with there knife and spear line, just the swords are not made by them, I will buy knives from them , just not a sword that I would use as is, if for modifying, I might consider one....SanMarc.

I have Cold Steel's Horseman's Broadsword and I'm not real impressed by it. the blade was whippier than I liked and it didn't cut real well. I must say that I LOVE the hilt furnature though. the rayskin grip especially. the blade has a good heat treat as far as I can tell. I've turned it into a sparring blunt. it's not a bad sword just nothing to get worked up about.

I've had a CS O-Katana. Loved it for what it was.
I also snagged a CS Trail Hawk. Fantastic tomahawk. The axe forum over on Bladeforums.com has a lot of users who think highly of it. Good head with hammer-poll, holds an edge well, decent geometry for small camping tasks(obviously, as a tomahawk, it's a weapon first, as oppose to a hatchet).
I'm considering a CS Pocket Bushman.

I have a CS Laredo bowie that I'm very impressed with, also Bladematrix has it at a great price right now. I also have a CS naval cutlass I like quite a bit, tho the guard is a bit loose. I'd buy both of these again.
Lastly I have the CS kobun, this one I'm not so impressed with. It would make a nice little hide out knife but I probably wouldn't buy it again. I find it a little wimpy.

I actually have kinda small hands (8 1/2 ring finger). My Kobun has a 5 1/2 by 1 inch blade 1/8 inch thick with a kraton guard (I'd prefer metal). A decent enough knife but small I'd say.
I think I saw a pic of yours SanMarc. It is different no? I like yours better.

I almost had a Cold Steel Shamshir... but it was bent so I sent it back. However, aside from the bend, it felt like a decent weapon as far as balance and fit and finish go... I liked the heft of it alot. Of course, the Cold Steel Shamshir is in truth a windlass, as Paul discovered, so I guess that doesn't say much.

i have and love the cold steel o katana, i cant figure out how i could actually break it, but nontheless i would not say no to another one.
i have wanted a cold steel dragonfly for a long time now, but i always find something better to spend $500 on. (for example df bushi 1095, or just stick it in the nihonto fund...)
id definately buy an imperial katana for $300, but never $500, as id compare thier imperials to df's $300 musha class.
as for thier straight swords i hear good things about the gim.
imo cold steel make good throwers too, ive got one of those torpedos and my pal has a true flight thrower, both are great.
the bushman knife is cheap and reliable, and its great if you should ever need to make a spear real fast...
id definately get one of those polyprop bokkens aswell, if i find one being sold in my country.

I have an old version of their riflemans tomahawk. Had it for years and wouldn't trade for anything! I have won 13 competitions alone with it.

I'm looking towards their Norse Hawk, (anything Norse/Viking I love) anyone here got one ? I would probably sand off the black paint and add a treatment to it ........ any thoughts anyone ? Also if anyone has any of their blades in San Mai III ...... I personally could never warrant the prices they ask for it but does anyone have an opinion or feedback on them

My favorite Cold Steel product is... as I reach into my pocket because I can't remember the name. Uh... A Pro Lite lock-blade folder. I carry and use it just about every single day of the year. It has worked well on everything from boxes and string to fully skinning and butchering wild hogs. It holds an edge as well as any knife I've owned and it only cost $41 at Blade Matrix. I have also used their Master Hunter on quite a few wild hogs and deer. It is an outstanding choice for a working knife as well. And I will never be without one of their two-hand machetes and special forces shovels. Mine are rusty and covered with dings and gouges and mud. But they keep going strong and performing reliably even when they are beat up and dull. I can't say enough good things about their knives and tools. I just wish they knew as much about making swords.

LTC kukri get my vote, I own two and Coldsteel replace scabbard free of charge when I broke one .They discontinue the LTC now but Mechete line still offer the same blade profile and Gurka kukri is not a bad knife either . I still searching for the ATC version but it is very hard to find . I want to get Natchez bowie but I don't have $595 right now (or ever?)

My favorite is the gim sword, which I own.
I would absolutely reccomend it. The only thing I didn't like that much was the grip sort of bites into my hand after a while, although this is fixed by wearing a glove when I use it.
