AND ITS GOOD!
i cant believe how nervous i actually was lol
(i can really see how a bit of bad press can harm a company now)
my first impressions are; nice blade, excellent hi, not really into the hamon, but its ok
the similarities between this and the DF musha class are highly apparant imeadiately
in fact its sort of a 2/3 musha 1/3 bushi hybrid lol
2 small things ive got to mention firstly, its single pegged, i dont aprove of this, but i wont be doing heavy cutting with it so really thats fine.
secondly, the saya, this is the tightest saya i have ever had i can feel major resistance when there is still 6" of blade the sheathe
i'll PM paul about any possible exra sayas he might be able to get.
but all in all, the blade being the main factor.
I AM VERY HAPPY
thanks paul and thanks sonny.

I'm glad its good for you. With all the reports of defective items from this line I was afraid for you. Anyway if the only problem is the saya being too tight then that's not much of a problem. With 6" of the blade in the saya you shouldn't feel that much resistance if any really. Definitely contact Paul and/or Sonny regarding that issue.
Congrats on getting a good sword!

Take a really close look at your blade and try to determine where it is binding up, and make sure it's not rubbing on the ha. Since they offer different choices of color on their saya I'm certain they are one size fits all and would be concerned that it wasn't following the sori correctly, thus possibly rubbing in a bad spot.

if i oil it up, and force it all the way into the saya, when i force it back out there is about 3 to 4 inches along the ha that are definately getting rubbed or pressed, as the oil has been rubbed off.
i dont want to make a big deal out of this, as the blade is spot on.
but i hope there are some more sayas available, im prepared to buy like 2 just to make sure one fits perfectly...
i can imagine nukitsuke with this sword will be great.

Is there enough wood that you can just file it down a bit? Shouldn't be too difficult, or take much time.
Sure'd be easier than getting a new saya...

Better too tight than too loose. In fact, when getting a custom saya made it is good for the maker to leave the saya too tight, so tha the owner can file it out as desired. This avoids looseness due to change in moisture during travel between maker and owner.
Consider it a blessing, not a curse. Now get out that file!

but what if the part of the ha being rubbed is waaay down near the kissaki, therefor deep in the saya, how does one get a file to that spot?

Magic.
Or by splitting it, filing, resealing, and re-lacquering. It's a pain, but probably still easier than ordering a new one.

Congratulations, kenpachi316, I'm glad that you've got your blade finally ! When I received my, the saya was so tight , that it was almost impossible to perform koiguchi-o kiru , but now, after maybe hundred or so nukitsuke and noto ( not the perfect ones, I'd say ), it's loosing up significantly... I'll keep trying

My 1601 kat, 1601 wak, and 1701 kat are all three tight but I prefer it that way. They won't fall out and will loosen with wear. They aren't as tight as kenpachi is describing however.

It's a pain, but probably still easier than ordering a new one. maybe for you mate, I've got almost no wood skills. if it were me I think I'd just buy one and then maybe play with splitting and all that after I get the new one. Yuck, what if the sword doesn't fit because its bend is different than most of the rest of the production? that means even buying a new saya wouldn't help.
