Hello everyone,
I wanted to post a small review about a fantasy sword I recently purchased.
This obscurely large sword is born straight from my favorite manga Berserk, heres what the manga tells about it. The Dragonslayer is an over sized sword wielded by Guts. It was originally created by the blacksmith Godo at the request of the king, who wanted a weapon capable of slaying a dragon. The king was displeased because the Dragonslayer was too large to be effectively wielded, and so Godo was exiled. Guts claims the weapon when Godo's cottage is attacked by an Apostle.
The sword is not even sharp (Farnese could sit on its edge without getting hurt) and more like a huge hunk of steel. Due to being constantly used against Apostles and other evil spirits, the Dragonslayer exists simultaneously in the Astral and physical realms and can damage astral beings. It is the only weapon known to be effective against Emperor Ganishka in his mist form.
The actual measurement of the sword remains unknown, as it is disproportional in many scenes, especially ones during combat.
Now I've gotten my hands on this weapon and no I did not make it myself all credit goes to a certain person wich I will tell more about later. Now I'll get to the measurements its about 1.85 metres long, the start of the edge is about 22 centimetres wide ending at 8 centimetres at the top, the grip is about 50 cm long and its 0.8 millimetres thick. To be honest I don't know what material its made of but I think its a regular metal, no stainless steel I'm sure of that. It weighs 16 kilos I believe thats 35 lbs, so yeah its insanely heavy to wield. It has been sharpened to a roughly sharp edge.
I have tested this sword against a pallet or 4 and offcourse some bottles filled with water, wich to my utmost satisfaction exploded upon hit. The pallet's planks were cut or crushed in 1 or 2 hits depending on what point of the sword's edge struck the wood ( its hard to aim with a sword that big) Horizontal cutting is nearly impossible, I managed to get a cut in a bottle about 1/3 of it and a small cut in wood. As for the sword some battle scratches though due to its weight it did bend a bit in a U shaped form but you can easely bend it back straight with the use of some force offcourse.
Here is a video of the guy I bought my sword from:
If you're interested in buying from him you'll have to contact him via youtube. Wich concerned me at first, because honestly you have to trust a complete stranger with your money. But when I saw his vid I knew I wanted this sword so I asked him how much and how he wants payment. The sword costs about the equavelent of 500 USD and all shipping costs are for the customer aswell depending on where you live offcourse this may vary, also he wants a starting budget of 100 to gather materials. I paid via PayPal, keeping contact with him via youtube about progress and such. After 3 weeks I received a large pakkage, when opening it I couldn't get this stupid smile off my face, my very own Dragonslayer.
I'll try to post more pictures soon and I'll be happy to answer any questions.
