I've made a Berserk sword out of oak, about 12 to 15 lbs... 6' long, 4'+ blade, 6" wide blade x 1" thick, the guard is a block about 7" wide x 5" tall x 3" thick... the rest is handle and pumel... pretty hefty for a wooden sword but I can still do the figure 8 weilding regular and inverted... I would love to get a high carbon steel one...

Unfortunately, those swords are made out of unhardened steel. I doubt it would matter too much. No sword on earth could stop this monster from crushing it's enemies. I really want to make one now. Yeah but if the targeted dude just steps out of the way you're probably screwed because that is not a nimble blade, however I would never want to upset the man that could wield that thing in a functional manner.

If anyone on the forum I know could wield it nimbly, it would be Hairu or RicWilly ;D I have a friend named Eric who can pick up one end of a car, or has even used 1 person in a group of attackers as a club to hit the others, a Claymore is more like a rapier to him, he could do some cool stuff with that monster sword

Massive and unbelievable nature of the Dragonslayer aside, what's the general consensus of the earlier swords of Guts? The sword he had up till he was eleven and the sword he had at fifteen seem to be realistically sized, if a little larger than normal. I do admit to having a hard time ascribing a size for them given how hard it is to find an image of Guts upright with a sword, at least in the case of the first sword he used. Kind of throws me off when he's crouched down and holding it.
I suppose you could put the first sword he used at around 42 inches or so. The size comparisson of the sword he uses when he's fifteen and first meets Griffith looks to be within greatsword or zweihander length, so maybe 55 inches? I'm no expert so I can say for sure.
I won't comment on the other swords he uses before the Dragonslayer as they seem to be longer than guts is tall, putting them over six feet by my estimate. Is there really anyone who could swing a sword that long once, let alone in a skilled manner?

Well some claymores were about six feet long and the scots were feared warriors. Also a true two hander would be getting up around that length and if balanced well enough could easily be swung. It isn't so much about swinging it in a skilled manner as it is learning to be comfortable with such a long handle.

Guts's earlier swords are plausible I suppose but they're still not all that likely. Discounting the one he had at around 11, those swords were not only abnormally long but also abnormally broad and appear only slightly tapered. It would seem to me that they'd all be very blade-heavy, (at a few points they are shown to have a lot of momentum,) and recovering to perform a follow-up strike would be very difficult.
