I am currently in the process of removing the secondary bevel on the castile I reviewed and I'm here to say it is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I'm guessing it is a testament to the heat treating that V.A. does on it but man this blade is hard. I was using a file on it at first but it barely scratched it. most of the time the files just slides off doing nothing. I'm now using a coarse whetstone but it's still slow going.
so has anyone else tried to sharpen theirs, and if so what was your experience?

Hello Tom, We now have the capability to dramatically sharpen the Castile's to a razor sharp cutting edge. The edge is scary sharp so we will not sharpen the Castile's this way unless requested. We sharpened a few and test cut with Shooter Mike. The results were impressive. Mike was able to do double cuts on tatami and cut water bottles with ease. Even I, an unexperienced cutter, was able to cut through water bottles with decent consistency. I will be able to post a video of Mike's cutting with the Castile next week. No, I wont be appearing myself in any of the cutting videos. ;D ;D ;D
Anyway, PM me if you want some help sharpening your Castile.

that's ok Sonny I'm almost half way through the rough shaping now. thanks for the fast reply. I'm really impressed by your heat treat that blade is TOUGH. it may be slow going but by the time I'm done with it I'll be able to shave almost. I just wanted to know who out there was struggling with it.
I do very much reccomend people ask you to sharpen it considering the toughness of the blade though.
when you sharpen it does it come out as sharp as the custom tuned practical I got from you guys? that sword was darn sharp. I am impressed.

Tom doesn't need this, but maybe some others who are contemplating buying a sword from Valiant Armoury might like to know.
Sonny is offering an "extra sharp" option on these ATrim/CF designed swords. Ask Sonny for details. Here is some cutting with one of the first Castiles he sharpened as a "prototype." The ones he will ship can be scary sharp, or as sharp as you want.
