Just found SBG a few days ago. Really liked the "feel" of the site and the info seemed really good so I signed up for the newsletter. Promptly got the Dec newsletter and saw the news about the Santa Special at True Swords. OK, I've never bought a sword before. I know you're supposed to investigate the company, the seller, the sword, etc. etc. but here was a differentially hardened katana for 60 FREAKING DOLLARS!!! Even if it turns out to be useless as a cutter, it looks pretty nice and at this price I can handle a wall hanger. Plus it makes a great Christmas present for my son (he's 21, so no minors involved). Having lost all sense of sanity, I got ready to order the sword.
What I intend to do now is provide a blow-by-blow story of my first adventure in sword buying. Ordering was very simple. It took me a grand total of 10 minutes to sign up on the True Swords web site, place my order and get a FEDEX tracking number for my order!! Either True Swords has a state-of-the-art order service system or somebody there was sitting around with very little to do when my order came in. The email with the FEDEX number was time stamped 1 minute after the email acknowledging my order. I have never seen such a fast response for an online order. Well done True Swords. I'll post another follow-up when I get my package, scheduled for 12/3. Can't wait!!

Trueswords and Kult of Athena both seem to use the Bugs Bunny package delivery service. you haven't got it yet? they must be busy. ok that's a slight exaggeration but they are FAST! I guess you'll see your sword in about 2-4 days depending on where you are (continental US). you must be talking about the Musashi "bamboo warrior" or "black bamboo", that sword has been getting a fair amount of attention here and all reviews point to good. good luck, welcome to the forum and please keep the story rolling. +1 karma for joining and starting a story for us right away.

Ian, I think the santa special has the same blade as the bamboo warrior, but different furniture. Congrats varkdrvr! I look forward to hearing about it

Lucky, hopefully in the next week I will be getting a chance to go to the KoA showroom in Illinois, I live only an hour from there. I will probably be just getting a wallhanger (maybe a 2H flamberge) to wear around Ren faire this upcoming summer (HUZZAH), but I may decide to get either the Hanwei Scottish Claymore or the Hanwei Bastard -Antiqued in the spring, depending on if I like the feel of them.
Swords, the gift that will keep on giving ;D

LOL I didn't think of it like that. I never pay attention to those silly names, but I guess they did name this one santa special. Ian maybe you could render it in kanji for us?

I just looked at the order confirmation email and the product is actually listed as:
1 x Musashi - 1060 Carbon Steel - Santa Special (TS-FTMUSK40) = $59.99
FEDEX tracking says it was picked up at 7:47 PM same day after my order was placed at 2:20 PM. This is definitely an auspicious start to this experience.

I love places that ship out the same day as delivery, it just makes you all the more excited because you know you will get it sooner

It was kinda odd, you could tell the people there aren't used to visitors. Hopefully when I go back there in winter I'll actually get something. P.S. Some may remember my obsession with the CAS River Witham sword. I got to hold it at KOA, but I was in sword-induced-ecstasy so I doughnut even remember how it felt. Curse myself! Next time I go I promise to hold more swords and not be so overwhelmed. Sucks when your life revolves around swords.

Just remember, we can quit whenever we want to. We just don't want to. ;D

To paraphrase Mark Twain: I don't know what all the fuss is about. There's nothing to quitting swords. I do it all the time.
