It was obvious from his Bruchort (speling?) blade that he recently unveiled.

Haha this should have been in the "memories" post hehe. What the heck is a toshi ? All those blade were heat treated quenched in brine then into hot oil, now maybe you can see why I recommend it so much. I still have the long katana and Otanto I worked together with John on, I still have to go back and get the leaf blade and scimitar and some other knives. The katana exhibits the same utsuri as that Otanto. if you are interested, the nagasa on the katana is 4 FEET 1/4 inch, 1 3/4 inches of sori, width at the machi is a hair under 1 1/2 inch, nakago is 14 3/8ths of an inch. It's a biggun. Hamon is a bit thin for my liking I prefer WIDE hamon, and I suspect it might have gotten more sori if the hamon was wider. Nothing detrimental to it's performance as a sword though. One day when I win a million dollars i'll get it polished .

Taking commissions, Sam? No. Yes it was 1075, hence why I mentioned in the steel thread it is my personal favorite.

I want to see it sam, I demand pictures! Haha! Your adoring audience awaits Sam =). You can no longer hide your addiction to and love for Japanese swords with single edges and hamon any longer! Sorry man lol, but everyone deserves a little ribbing once in a while =). Particularly from people who consider them friends lol. Cris

Wow...creepy.
Not to derail the thread lol...but Sam...you look a hell of a lot like me in that picture (other than the widows peak). My wife came in and said 'When did you take that picture, and where the hell are you? Wait...that's not you?'
Crazy stuff!

Sam looks a teensy bit like Jack Black with Blacksmith arms.
A worryingly mighty prospect.
Those were some nice blades you did back along. When can we expect to see some more of your work?
And why don't you take any commisions anymore!? Madman!

You can see it a little from this picture. One my wife took years and years ago when she was still living in Tucson and I was here in Phoenix. Jack Black lol! I wouldn't say that so much....Eddie Munster maybe?? I can say that safely because people used to say it to me lol. Eddie Munster and Peter Brady...no joke =p. Back on topic...I may have to fly Sam out here so he can spend a week tutoring me lol. Those blades were very clean, and the hamon quite beautiful. How's this Sam...if you buy the round trip plane ticket, I'll pay for the classes with Tai for you (I'm sure you'd enjoy it just for the experience) that we can take together, and you can spend an extra week free so we can work together a bit. Maybe...sometime early next year? I'm mostly serious lol...depending on finances =). Cris

Holy semprini we do look pretty similar! I have gotten the jack black thing before, I get Freddy Mercury once in awhile too. As for the trip to tai goos, thanks but no thanks . I'd love to fly out and work with you, but cannot afford to buy plain tickets, I'd be cool if you wanted to fly me out though especially in AZ for January hehe (cheaper route would be to just go see tai goo). Matt, I hope I did not give any false info or pretense, I had only done the forge work on those blades, John had done all the grinding. they are in a 400 grit or thereabouts polish, then etched and scrubbed with scotchbrite. I don't do much work for anyone if at all anymore because I am not setup to properly do things. Why attempt to sell a half ass product, plenty of production companies already do that. I won't enter into the selling market until I can have everything setup to do things right. I just do what I can do now, that's forge, bit of rough grinding too . When I do get things all setup who knows, I will probably not take any commissions then even, just make what I want to and sell it if anyone wants it, I found from the limited amount of times I have had them that deadlines are not cool, and I don't want to put myself in the situation where I will have one.
