I'm wanting one more sword and I think I may be pretty good on swords... for a while.
I'm thinkin either Hanwei hand and a half, DSA Knight sword, or... I don't know...
What would be good? My price range is basically anything under $300.
I'm looking for a European type sword that's decent for cutting and thrusting.
The only sword I have now is a Windlass 15th Century Longsword and I love it. It seems just right for me, but why not get another?

You know, this is how it starts . Anyways, the gen 2 lucerne/black price are good sub 300 swords if you want a more thrust oriented, very lively and agile blade. I have some issues with it...but I'm very picky. The sword overall is pretty nice for a sub 300 sword. The tinker hanwei longsword is selling at KoA for $305 dollars. Yeah I know, it breaks the $300 limit...but it's by 5 bucks. Shootermike seems very happy with his. The XVIIIa should be a good cut and thrust longsword as well. The windlass XIV sword is pretty much well loved by many here and is a good choice for a one handed cut and thrust sword.

Hmm... If you've already got a longsword, and want only one more, you may want to dabble in single-handers. Unless your preference lies solely in longswords.
I can't really suggest any good ones under $300, though, but I figured I'd offer the idea, at least.

Cold Napalm is spot on....most of us have uttered the words..."just one more" at some point.
15 yrs and 20+ swords later...I still speak the words...
As always, take time to do your home work on one's that catch your eye...and good luck on your quest.
cheers, Bill

Well... as Random said, if you already have a windlass long sword and you look for something in a one handed/arming sword... you might like the Windlass Oakeshott Type XIV Medieval Arming Sword... many fellow forumites have picked up this sword of late, and ALL have sung it's praises. There are more then one review of it around. However, if you DO want another longsword style blade... and you wanna try something differant from your Windlass... as Cold Napalm Suggested you could try the Gen 2 lucerne. Fellow Fourmite Swordboy is selling one now in the classified, along with a Windlass dagger, for the same price or a bit less as most retailers sell the sword alone. A good deal...

Are the V.A. Practical sharps still around? I know the Custom tuned are gone but I've heard plenty good about the regular practicals. I love my Tuned V.A. Practical. the only thing I would wish for would be a shorter grip, but that's not a big deal at all. I also like the Windlass Late Spanish Sword. it isn't quite as tough as the V.A. due to blade geometry but it is a heck of a great cutter. here's my review: /index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=7234

Sonny Suttles told me yesterday that a new batch of VA Practical sharps is being made. No idea on delivery time yet, but they are all supposed to be the "tuned" version as they come from the forge.

I second that! the tuned V.A. practicals are great, heck even the untuned practicals sound really good. whether you want a longsword or an one hand arming sword go with the Valiant Armory Practical. they are well under $300 too, often as low as 250 or sometimes even 225-ish.
I really don't think there is a better sword of the type for less than $300

I'm wanting one more sword and I think I may be pretty good on swords... for a while.... Ah, yessss. The sentiment we all share, methinks. I joined this forum back in July of last year. Swordless then, I now have four. It is a terrible disease, and if I didn't have other interests to tap my funds, I'd have a lot more. *sigh*

Haha, yea, I did the same with firearms too I'm afraid and now I'm sitting on a nice little collection. www.darksword-armory.com/1306.html I think that, a decent scramasax, and the NOrdland Viking axe would tie me over for quite a while...

Hey Mike... am I hearing you right? Are you saying all the new VA Practicals will be the same as the Custom tuned swords? Because I've been wanting a VA Practical Costum Tuned Arming sword... but of course I can't find one, they are all gone. When will these new ones be out and about, do you think? Will they really be just as good?

I tried to ask Sonny as well, but no luck there also. I even asked Paul... but no luck. So I put it out into the masses for an answer... I need only 2 more swords (maybe 3) and then I'll be done for a bit while I save up some cash to go UP-scale a bit on a custom project or two in the fututre. One of those 'holes' in my colection is a really good single handed europian sword. From all accounts, the Custom Tuned VA Practical Arming sword is JUST what the doctor ordered... but of course, they are all gone. As are the sharp versions of the normal practical arming sword. I almost bought a usd one recently... but I recalled ShooterMikes statment that the next batch of Practical Arming Swords will basicly ALL be custom tuned versions. If thats so, I want it... but no one can confirm this, or give a date they might be avalible. So... anyone got any info?

Sorry Howlsky! I just saw this. I miss so many threads these days. Shoulda PM'd me.
Yeah, that's what Sonny said. A new forge is working on a second batch of practicals. The "tuned" versions is actually what they were supposed to be in the first place. And Sonny seemed ot have confidence that the new forge would get them right this time. I don't have an ETA on when they will be available. That always depends a lot on customs. The last batch sat for 6 weeks here at the customs house before Sonny could get them released.
If I had to guess, I say late February or March. But that's a total wild-ass guess. It might be way later.

as an owner of a "custom tuned" I have to say that if these swords compare the the custom tuned ones then they are worth the wait. nothing else I've seen in the price range even comes close.

The VA Practical Arming sword itself looks to be very decent, but the costum tuned versions are, by all acounts, the best sword buy anywhere near that pricerange for a single handed sword. Thats why I want one so bad. I saw your review on it... looks like it agrees well with you also. Mike: Thanks for the info... thats what I had heard also... that Sonny was using a new forge for the next batch and that this time all of the VA Practical Arming swords will be as good as the costum tuned version. Let me know if you hear anything more will ya? I really want one of these. I need something that really handles and cuts like a SWORD... and I can't afford the awesome weapons in the high end, like that Flarred Shoulders of yours. At least, not yet...
