Hey all, just wondering which of the 2 companies makes the better product to be used. I had done a search here and not much was found, as well the related posts had some age. So I am asking here for the current state of both companies and which would be the way to go here. In particular, I'm considering the Napoleonic French Imperial Guard models. Thanks for any advice regarding the 2.

Interested to hear any comments....the products from militaryheritage are intriguing, but I've not seen a lot of feedback and no real recent feedback. People, however, don't generally buy these as cutters, though...

IIRC for Military Heritage, I've heard that they are dress only. They will say "high carbon steel" and stuff like that, same as a modern WKC thing and theoretically I suppose if you put an edge on them they would go through material as it is simply a question of physics. But as far as the mass and taper and distribution of weight there are few "modern" makers who even approach old sabres. I don't see any photos of the side of the blades and can't tell the distal thickness. For Universal swords I will 100% say right now that they should not be used for anything destructive both because like the above they may not be good representations of the models as originally shaped, and because there may be danger if the tang is too thin with the blade breaking. This link and others should be informational sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/61006/universal-swords-steel I am not shocked the company famous for making movie wall hangers is not Angus Trim but IMO the Windlass 1796 is the only new "sabre" that begins to approach the feeling of an old model.

What jtd said.
Some folks seem to like LK Chen’s military sabers. I don’t have one, so I can’t say from personal experience. I do have a couple of their niuweidao, and they are quite nice. I also have the Windlass 1796, and it’s pretty decent, too.

It's depressing that nobody currently makes an Imperial Guard Light Cavalry Trooper's Sabre that's worth a damn to use.
