The title says most of it. You have $10k USD to spend on (3) custom *European medieval* swords. What do you spec and order, and why?

(1) A Frankish/Bavarian 7th C. spatha Something like this: www.templ.net/pics-weapons/169-sword/sw169erba-v.jpg(2) A hand and a half knightly sword (Albion Castellan hilt with a XII/XVI like blade) (3) A Pappenheimer hilt sidesword Something like this but with a little bit broader blade: www.clevelandart.org/art/1916.697All under 1200 g. Not much decorated. The spatha for my ancestry. The knightly sword because...sword. The sidesword as real solid musketeer battle sword, not a fancy town rapier (ok, very late medieval)

Albion Alexandria with a custom scabbard. Exactly what I bought last year. I genuinely got my dream sword. I can honestly say I am content. <3 However, if I ever decided on a custom, it might look somthing like this Peter Johnsson, but to be honest, 10,000$ for a Peter Johnsson custom would be just the downpayment.

the Albion isn't a custom sword.....
Me, because I am not sure of the pricing of some others' works....A Type XVIa longsword from Maciej Kopciuch, a wide type XiV from Mateusz Sulowski, and a Viking sword from Damien Sulowski.....that's all without scabbards and probably has enough left over to cover shipping.

Already spent the first $3k on the Loch Ness Monster from Damian Sulowski - sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/72211/beginsa Type XIIa "Grete Swerde of Warre" with characteristically Scottish furniture 2nd custom - a Type XVI arming sword with a mirror-polished double-fuller blade and a fishtail pommel. Something as pretty or prettier than the Dynasty Archduke, but one that actually handles properly for a late era cut-and-thrust arming sword (closer in feel to the Valiant Brighton than the Archduke) 3rd custom - an estoc with a long blade (42" or more) and a hilt of the style like this one in the MET - www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/27434

Whatever incredible heirloom sword Stormmaster has grown tired of, and two cups of coffee.

I'd put it down on a new car for SWMBO, because I'd like what that would lead to much better than the possibility of having 3 custom medieval swords shoved up my wazoo while I'm asleep............

Let's see... for $10,000 I'd probably go for a semi-custom version of the German bastard sword from Tod's Workshop like this one but red or blue because black is just kinda 'meh' for me. For the others I would probably see about getting a custom based on IX.155 and and if there's anything left after that then perhaps this sword from Maciej Kopciuch, based on the one in the Royal Armories. The first is just a beautiful piece of work but the other two just have that unique oddness factor going for them that I can't deny.

I'd definitely get a Howard Clark Katana with antique fittings. After the polish and mounting I'd probably be pushing close to 8k. So the next would probably be a custom XVI by Sulowski or Art of Sword Making.

I definitely wish we could see more Germanic and Frankish/Carolingian swords in the repro market!

The first would be a custom late-15th C. German longsword. The hilt would draw heavily from the Munich sword (maybe a less ornate pommel, and not gilded, obviously), but with adjusted proportions and the addition of side rings that have the same cross-sectional shape as the cross. Blade would be longer, broader and hollow-ground (think Albion Regent/Earl).
The second would be a hand-and-a-half Reitschwert crafted as a compliment to the longsword above, with a ricasso and second upper set of rings.
The third would be a long Landsknecht-type dagger that compliments the Reitschwert and Longsword.

Id probably spend 2/3s of that to have a semi realistic BigGoron sword made by Winburn with a Damascus blade and fittings. What ever was left would be put into a custom schiavana

A properly inlaid type H viking sword with a pattern welded blade. As in, iron hilt with the grooves and copper and silver wires hammered into it.
That would run about $10k so I'd only be able to get the one.

Now, if you said $25000 to spend, I could do three:
The aforementioned type H A type B with a pattern welded blade A vendel era sword with a gold plated hilt and a pattern welded blade and all the garnets

It would be pretty easy to spend $10,000 in the classified section right now with that Sulowski type xvi big blade and the Castle Keep hand and a half, not to mention the art of sword making double fuller...
That would even leave a few bucks left over for Band-Aids!
Lol
Or for married folks to take their spouse out to dinner 10 times!

That Castle Keep is gorgeous. I just love that blade. I hope it isn't the Rob Miller issues that are stopping its sale...since Rob won't be benefiting by its resale.

This is just my opinion but it seems like a bit of a stretch to boycott a Craftsman because they admitted that they liked a book that was written by an semprini...
