A XXa like the second one in Records. Elgur makes XXa's but the fullering is quite different.

it will be interesting to see who completes their sword quest I'm up for the challenge, but I'm afraid we'll have to at least double that puny budget if more truly "custom" swords are the only thing on the menu. I've already started, with the last "German Bastard Sword" w/ custom scabbard (Wallace Collection A479) recreation that was in stock at Tod's Workshop. I hope we're not considering such a typically commissioned piece to be "production", but I guess we'd have to define the term "custom" clearly, to figure out what creations qualify. The problem with the budget is that a decent number of these creations are found throughout Europe. As a result, most of these types of purchases will involve VAT taxes and other clearance fees/customs duties that will instantly eat up a not-insignificant chunk, leaving insufficient funds for three such "serious" sword purchases.

Ugh... that's such a freaking awesome looking sword. I wanted it so badly but I don't think I could ever convince myself to spend that much on one item. Enjoy it!

It's almost like two purchases, thanks to the surprisingly ornate scabbard/belt/suspension. Frankly, just by way of example, the Albion Ljubljana, a production blade, was about $3300+ on its own, and a highly-detailed scabbard for it like a DBK will be in the $2500+ range. In light of that sobering consideration, Tod's fully-custom, much more ornate, fully-handmade sword suddenly doesn't feel out of line, considering the incredible effort and enormous time he puts into each of those bastard swords and scabbards. Of course, Albion charges more for its Museum Line due to extensive research time and developmental costs in achieving a reasonable approximation of replication. Tod, in this particular case, had the considerable additional challenge of "tweaking" this historically piece-mealed assemblage into a fully-functional, less crude specimen than the original itself, without noticeably altering its very distinct features and appearance, and while preserving its inherently imperfect vintage appeal.

don't include VAT and customs fees in the $10,000 budget. I wouldn't even include shipping in the budget for this.
Item 2 of my 3 will be made next year. That should allow for Item 3 to complete a total less than $10k.

Already spent the first $3k on the Loch Ness Monster from Damian Sulowski - sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/72211/beginsa Type XIIa "Grete Swerde of Warre" with characteristically Scottish furniture 2nd custom - a Type XVI arming sword with a mirror-polished double-fuller blade and a fishtail pommel. Something as pretty or prettier than the Dynasty Archduke, but one that actually handles properly for a late era cut-and-thrust arming sword (closer in feel to the Valiant Brighton than the Archduke) 3rd custom - an estoc with a long blade (42" or more) and a hilt of the style like this one in the MET - www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/27434
Slight revision to the plan for number 3. It should copy one of the estocs in the collection at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw. Similar hilt to what I originally listed, triangular cross section blade.
