Maybe the people affected could post their provider, might be a specific one. Could a VPN be activated by the browser without the user knowing? But then other browsers should work. A few months ago a lot of botfarms were killed off, maybe these IPs got recycled and are still numera non grata on many servers.

That said...ISPs have been doing that forever, and this doesn't seem to be a longstanding issue for this site. It's possible that there has some strange policy change with a service provider that's coincidentally impacting more of our users than we've previously experienced, but that seems like a statistically unlikely scenario. Has there been any recent change at forums.net, or in the code for SBG?

Not an SBG issue but I’m now locked out of my bank account. Not using VPN.

Bizzare. Just randomly tried again to log in and it worked, finally.

I just tried open the site in a public wlan with vpn and got the message that I'm banned. Fortunately I could open it normally via smartphone mobile internet access. Tried again with public wlan/vpn and got normal access too. All within 5 minutes and the same smartphone.

This just happened to me again, with the same problem solution as before. Change from wlan/vpn to mobile internet works and back again to wlan/vpn works also again.
Edit: And just another time.

I'd blame most of it on using smartphones on their phone company's network, because you get a new IP address every time you connect. I have a similar problem, mostly on Wikipedia and Google, due my having to use my cell phone hotspot for my computer when I'm way out here in the country. Some sites ban entire ranges of IP addresses. Wikipedia has a dedicated page for apologizing about this, and how to work around it and edit anyway if you aren't really banned.

But internet via smartphone & phone company network was the solution for the problem I got with wlan & vpn. I assume the problem is caused by vpn.

Basically, the problem is losing the lottery when pulling an IP that is on our block list. We are working behing the scenes to refuce the chances of this, but with cellular (mobile) services and the proliferation of VPNs it's becoming a challenge.

It would be helpful if there's an easy problem fix if it happens to someone else. For me it's not a big deal to change from wlan to phone network and back. But is there a way to fix it without a completely different internet connection? VPN on and off for example? (I'll try it next time I'm banned) That could be a good sticky thread or at help.

You'd need to force the VPN to give you a new IP. No idea if this is available. EDIT: You could try to give yourself a different global location via the VPN, this should change the IP.
Even then, it seems that the chance of landing on another banned IP is pretty high on some VPNs.

Unless you are paying for a Static IP, which usually only Businesses do for WAN purposes, you will have a different IP when you: 1) Use a different network (home vs office, restaurant, etc.) 2) Use a mobile device with cellular capability and have wifi turned off (mobile data goes through nearest towers and exits nearest data center. My mobile IP sometimes is in another State altogether). 3) Restart your modem (not just a router, but the modem itself). Power outages do this accidentally of course. 4) Use a VPN. Proton offers a free tier VPN that lacks all the bells and whistles, but still offers encrypted VPN service. Opera browser has a low-cost VPN baked into the browser. Want to know your current IP but aren't super tech savvy? Just visit: www.ipchicken.com/So, while the above are part of our problem, as Panora's Box has opened I see no reason not to share that info as it can also be part of the solution for our members.

Just to help others: Again banned on wlan & VPN. VPN off, access via WLAN possible. VPN on, again banned. Phone network & VPN, access again. Browser closed, back to wlan & VPN, access possible. Obviously the banned IP changed when closing the browser and changing to wlan & VPN.
