I would think if it's an IP ban causing the problem, the users wouldn't be able to just create new accounts and log in. Their Internet IP address would still be the same. Although I certainly don't how that works with the forum either. Just a thought.

100% right. Also, to take an example from earlier in the thread, one person is able to login with their laptop but not desktop. Presumably they're using the same source of internet (home network), which would present the same IP address to the forum - the IP address the ISP assigns to the router. The IP addresses of the individual desktop and laptop are going to be internal to the home network, and not presented to the forum.
(Above is in most normal cases)
There definitely seems to be something going on with the forum specifically. Whoever has access to logs (admin, presumably) would probably need to review them.

I think we are hitting banned IPs being recycled to legit members. I wish I had more under-the-hood access for the forum so we could get more data about what's happening. Banning by IP alone fails when someone uses an ISP that reassigns the IP each time a user logs on. The phone companies, for instance, do that. You'll miss the user you aimed at, and hit the innocent. Believe it.

Yeah I am at a loss as to what happened and like I said last night after about half hour I was able to log into the forums again from my desktop, not sure what is happening, but it is not user facing has to be something website/hosting based most likely.

This was happening to me too, it started yesterday afternoon (10/17/23). The only way I am able to post this is because I found a different device that I had logged in on previously. I assume there is a cookie on this device that saved my login credentials.

AI is taking over SBG. Where else would you expect Skynet to appear?

I hope SBG is not heading for a MyArmoury situation. Has anyone heard anything new about that site's long-lasting inability to register new users?

So 2 people now reclaimed their access by using an old already logged in device, this is weird. Have any of you tried resetting the password? Just shooting in the dark. Feels like either something auto-bans people (like when you go on KoA and refresh too often too fast you get auto-banned for a few minutes because the server thinks it's an attack) or a database issue.
MyArmoury has been locked for a while now and the page also doesn't load well. Last new member was added 2020, so I have low hopes. Probably had grown too big.

After a decade+ on this site, countless sales and interactions, and one current ongoing sale, I just had my account banned. Username Justice if my new name wasn't a hint. No warning, no notification of rules violations, nothing. Emailed the mod team for an explanation or at least reinstatement, no response. Just wanted to give a hand wave in case anyone was trying to message me. Not able to log in to my original account. Try to log in with your Justice account now.

Agreed. The Opera browser has a free VPN baked in, Proton VPN is free, and anyone accessing the forum from a work machine could be doing so over VPN. Many, many businesses use them, not all full-tunnel, though.

Could possibly be that, but for my experience with it, I don't use VPN, so not sure that is the only problem causing it.

It's usually caused by ISP's recycling IP's in a range. It's been an irritant at Wikipedia (for instance) for decades. There's no simple cure for it.

That said...ISPs have been doing that forever, and this doesn't seem to be a longstanding issue for this site. It's possible that there has some strange policy change with a service provider that's coincidentally impacting more of our users than we've previously experienced, but that seems like a statistically unlikely scenario.
