Recently decided to display my swords on the wall, and am actively looking for a good hanger, stand, or shelf. Then I got to wondering how everyone else displays their swords. Any ideas or even discussions on the topic would be helpful.
Thanks in advance

I made my own rack a while ago, didn't like how the off-the-shelf-racks are set up. I think it turned out pretty well for a first version. I will paint it someday. I don't have the biggest collection but little space in the appartment for hanging racks so I made it double stack. I will probably built another that is slightly different, with more of a slope to the second row.

Very briefly, between nukitsuke and noto. 👏 Well said Regarding the original question. I personally like the wall mounted horizontal sword racks. For now I have very young kids so sharp swords live in locked gun cases.

Racks on the wall, I find, are the most efficient solution. I have a few "wall hangers" on tabletop racks, however, add ironic as that is...

I actually found a couple of wood gun cabinets that I use. Keeps them protected, and still can see them through the glass.

I built my own from hard maple with inserted dowel pegs... That looks awesome. I was thinking about doing it myself, I think that just convinced me.

I have the same Enso stand that Matt Jensen reviewed - it really is a well made piece. Also, a tip if you make one with dowels like mine: make sure to cut a groove into the peg for the blade to site in - this will retain it at the angle you want, and ensures it doesn't flop over.

I use a combination of stands, depending on where I want the sword & sometimes how I want the particular sword isplayed (because I do a lot of customizing). I have a few tachikake, a two-blade horizontal stand, a horizontal wakizashi stand for a bookcase. I like the little vertical stands for tanto.

Used to keep them on a cheaper 16 tier japanese style floor rack until that broke a few years ago. Of course that was when the collection was much smaller lol.
Currently all 7 of my Japanese swords are on table top stands, 6 on two individual 3 tier stands and one on a single tier stand.
All of my European Swords are neatly stacked in corners with a few others including my spear and axe in the closet. With up to 40 of them now I definitely need to get a more proper display/storage rack that's a little more practical. I have a few designs I've been toying around with and have a long procrastinated 24 sword floor rack in the work shop inspired by the old 16 tier one that's been a W.I.P for the last 4 years lol.
If it's any consolation I clean all of them once a month, again something I used to enjoy on a Sunday evening but now with near 50 and probably soon to be 50 or more it's become quite the chore.

When I'm not displaying the swords in their saya, I keep them wrapped in bubble wrap and stored. To maintain them, I ren wax the crap out of the blades, the furniture, and their saya. It's amazing stuff!

Mine aren't really displayed. They are either on a small sword wrack (ha up, in saya) or my personal sword is on my kamiza (positioned similarly). This is in a private room that I don't invite guests into and is where I meditate. So, weirdly, aesthetics don't matter to me, just the health of the blades. I keep them oiled regularly, other than that, they are there for practice time.
