Must...resist...Landgraf...Sempach coming maybe by Christmas. why not have both? My wife is a science teacher and tells me that it's against the laws of physics for the Sempach and Landgraf to be in the same house.

curiomansion, Ya I'm from Texas and have skulled out (Europian mounted) several deer and pigs. Those skulls are no joke. Not gonna lie, what you are describing sounds....satisfying. No, I didnt stop at one gun lol, not at all. Ive built a few, eh, they're modern day swords. Now its time to go back to my roots, waaaaaaay back. I think I'm for sure dead set on Albion, for now. Ill check out your suggestions, especially the type XVIIs. Thanks man Haha. I didn't mean to suggest anything instead of an Albion, but rather, in the meantime. That 20 month wait is brutal.

Oh, I got you curio.
Thank you guys for this wealth of info. I know I will be able to make a decision now after reading this thread a few more times. I am thinking now of buying a cheaper sword to practice with, and placing an order on an Albion. This is a chunk of money, but like yall said, I can always resale.
If I don't do that, I will just be checking classifieds.
I haven't decided what sword or type to get, but will update when I do.

One last consideration is you might be able to make a down payment just to get on the waiting list and then you can take time deciding.

You think they will put you on the list without having made a choice?

I believe they would let you change as long as it was still a production model.

Oh wow, that is definitely an option, in fact I don't know why anyone wouldn't do that. Anyone know how much the deposit is?

My 2 cents: I hated my Knight. It looks great, but it was a wet noodle to me. Way too floppy to actually use. Cutting pool noodles, Sure. But anything harder and it doesn't give me the confidence to trust it. Again my opinion. It just doesn't feel how I like my swords to feel. Instead I would recommend the Squire. Very similar look in blade profile and handle shape, being a straight guarded crusader style with round pommel. But decently stiffer. Still a little floppy for me, but much better. It is now one of my favorites. One of Albion's better looking swords and performs amazingly in the cut and thrust. Hope that is simple and helps! Yesterday I was trying to find first hand experience and the difference with the Knight, and Squire, but to no avail. This is perfect.
The Squire is a great choice... Really nice and classic looking, quite stiff, agile, great cutting balance and feel. It has a thin diamond cross-section toward the point giving some extra stiffness, and the tip itself is a bit thicker for puncturing (but nothing like the Kingmaker / Burgundian / Fiore / Ringeck which have thick diamond ridges and strong 'awl' points for use against armor). It is sort of an 'improved' Knight (sort of like how the XVII Sempach/Landgraf are an evolution of the Crecy XVIa type). The Squire is a XVI, really a combination of lenticular cutting XII (like the Knight) and acutely tapered, diamond section cut-and-thrust XIV. Really it feels and acts like a long XIV. Definitely one of my favorite Albion one-handers.
But the big 'plus' for you (since you said you have big hands) is that the grip is extra long. I have 'medium' sized hands and the Squire grip allows one extra finger, and the pommel allows another in the concave part. So it can almost be a 'hand-and-a-half' sword for me... For some reason Albion does not list the grip length of their swords, but it would be helpful.
That would be my concern for you about the Landgraf, which seems to have a 7.25in grip (according to KoA stats). The Sempach has a 7in grip, and my hands just barely fit on the leather grip part. But the pommel gives extra grip space if you need it. The Landgraf pommel is more restrictive (it's a great pommel type, but it gives maybe one extra finger space in the chamfered part without gripping the whole pommel). So try putting your hands on a ruler and see what your overall grip length is before you make any decisions.
But the fact is, longswords started out as one-handers (in early to mid 13th century) with slightly longer grips to help with occasional 2-hand use (you can see manuscript illustrations of this type being used with shields, as a one-hander, alongside normal one-handers), and this configuration continued to be used all through the period and later (usually called 'bastard' swords). So maybe for someone larger, something that is basically a longsword for me (like Sempach) would be a hand-and-a-half or 'bastard' for you... In other words, not necessarily a problem, just something to consider.
You might think it is crazy now to order even one of these, but in case you (like a lot of us) end up collecting them, be aware that if you order 6 swords from Albion in one year you can get a 7th free (basically a credit of the average cost of the ones you bought). So that's another good reason to buy from Albion directly, and no sales tax, which is also really helpful.

I see the Sempach has come up a fair bit. As I understand it, going by historical swords that it is on the light side for the type XVII that it is. That being said I love mine. If you like to grip the pommel you will find that this sword's pommel is hard on the hand which leads one to 'palm' the pommel. The Sempach is a fast sword I enjoy it for Fiore and Liechtenaur's systems. Out of my swords if I had to carry one for everyday it'll be it. Granted I'm not the best cutter with it but it will deffinately slice and stab with ease!

Just to add in my 2 cents about changing your order. I know that I originally ordered a Crecy...only to get a second hand one. Emailed Albion, and told them to change it up to a Ringeck....No problems. Months later, I emailed again to change from a standard waisted grip to a wire wrap....again, no problems. At the end of the day, as long as they haven't begun working on your order....you are just making modifications for when your number is finally drawn.

Or is your place in line the same so to speak?

I spoke with Mike and he said changing your order does not alter your place in the waitlist
