I pulled apart a wallhanger and I thought I'd post some pics as an educatory thing for new enthusiasts so that they can see why SLOs are so dangerous. We should probably sticky this {mods?}. The infamous welded rat tail tang. This is how 99% of decorative swords are held together. Failure of this weld leads to the infamous "flying helicopter of doom". Note how poxy the cross and pommel are. I was hoping I could contribute these parts to another sword project but as you can see they are just hollow cast pieces, and completely unsuited to a real sword. And thats not to mention the cheap stainless steel blade - know for brittleness and snapping under stress. Best left on the wall, or better yet left on ebay while you contribute your funds to more worthy endeavours. A real sword should feature a beefy tang with no welds, which continues right from the blade through the pommel. Screw on pommels are fine, if the rod attachment is done correctly. Sturdy tang examples shown below: May all your swords be strong. Cheers.

Good example. Sorry that you can't find the parts that you want.

Somehow, I don't think making a wall hanger and Brenno should be used in the same sentence. THREAD STICKIED

Another thing that should be noted:
Do not purchase wallhangers to use their fittings. The crossguards are, more often then not, cast from Zinc(AKA: pot-metal). This is the same crap that die-cast Matchbox cars are made of. It's incredibly brittle, and will not hold up to any form of use.
I have a good feeling that even the low-end Katana, as are much-discussed on this board, have Fuchi, Kashira, and Tsuba made from the same material. It might be okay for Fuchi and Kashira, but thats about it.

Funny you should say that Holy Roller. When I was reassembling it I tried to move the Langettes in a little bit coz they were sticking out - one of them promptly snapped right off. +1 for you contribution.

Is it one of the ones that's supposed to resemble one of the swords from Conan? Because I used to have one. It was a Christmas gift. It lives again as this:

Yeah it is one of those $30 Conan jobbies. I can't believe you even bothered to put the work into that steel to make a dagger out of it. Does the steel hold up alright then? Nice dagger, I like the cross, conan would be proud.

Nice dagger, I like the cross, conan would be proud. It's not completely awful. The piece was surprisngly flexible at its length. I blunted the edge, since I made it as a dress piece for someone I used to work with. I figure it's better then tossing it in a dumpster.

that is a horrid weld on that. I have seen higher end swords with welded ends on the tangs but it was a much better job. The tang still extended down 3/4 of the grip before the treads .
