My Balaur Arms Viking sword along with the Tod Cutler bauernwehr dagger came in today and I am very happy with them! It's also my first Viking sword as well! The BA's not perfect but as a budget version of the Albion Berserker I think it's a real bang for your buck sword! Glad to see you got your pieces. I do like the look of the Balaur. Did KoA sharpen it for you?

Very handsome new piece Eric, congrats I always found that style of pommel interesting but never committed, how is it? I actually quite like it a lot and I usually only look at wheel types & brazil nut styles, so this was a new experience, I don't know why I haven't looked at this style before but it opened my eyes.

Yeah, if I wasn't in the process of buying another Albion I was going to jump on it. Hope it meets your expectation. That is a must have for me at some point.

Balaur Arms – Single Edged Viking Sword
Pretty happy with this one. For being a budget blade under $300, it fills a spot very nicely. No need for me to get the Albion Berserkr.
Overall Length 36 1/4" Blade Length 30 1/4" Weight 2 lb 4.9 oz Edge KoA sharpened Width 50.2 mm Thickness 4.4 mm - 1.8 mm Pommel Peened P.O.B. 6 7/8" Grip Length 3 7/8" Blade 5160 High Carbon Steel
Blade finish has grind and sanding marks and is not mirror bright but not too bad and fairly easy to smooth out. The pommel cap as a couple spots that might snag the skin, I took a picture of it with them circled. The blade fits in the scabbard pretty snug and does not sit all the way down on the throat, but with the rain guards it doesn't stand out unless you are looking for it. It has a lot of blade presence even with it being fairly light, and having good distal taper, a chopper for sure. The Kult of Athena sharpening job was once again very meh.... They always seem to leave 3-5inches of blade unsharpened near the hilt. They left a definite bur on the edge, which is fairly easy to remedy. The hilt furniture is very nice. Good shape and proportions. The copper wire and rivets are a very pleasing addition. The pommel sits just a slight bit off center line of the hand guard and grip. Not a big deal, but can catch the palm a bit.
The chape on the end of the scabbard is very pointy and I am not sure if historical or not. Blade shape is very nice and has the thicker spine that it should.
