That’s an interesting looking beast. My observations: 1. French swords typically use leather, horn or wire wrapping (if older) for the grip. This one uses ray skin. Possibly shagreen (shark skin). 2. Blade length of 76cm is too short for a cavalry sabre, especially for French cavalry.
My inclination is that this is a Spanish infantry officers’ sword.

That is a very interesting sword. Thank you for sharing.
Uhlan and bas are far more knowledgeable than I am. So my ramblings should probably just be politely ignored..
The peen looks nice, but doesn’t have that domed button look. Photo isn’t super clear, so I might be mistaken. That said, the ray skin (rather than sharkskin shagreen) and non-twisted non-uniform wire binding had me thinking professional re-hilt around late 19C to early 20C. Maybe an amalgamation?
The non (pre?) Montmorrncy blade sporting a distinct yelman is quite a looker.
I’m much more into cavalry sabers than those of the infantry. I seem to lean heavily into falchions and messers for foot troops. Still, I don’t recall ever encountering a blade of this shape. I also don’t know whether any infantry officially used that 1822-esque guard plate / bars. Mounted artillery maybe?
If you discover this is an official model / pattern, please share it with the forum! I might have to find one of my own.
Edit Uhlan, that Sardinian blade in your linked article is gorgeous. Does it have a Montmorency style 2d fuller? It looks like it does, but sword lighting can be tricky.

Thank you for all the information.
The saber is not mine yet, I'm thinking of making an offer to buy it.
Cheers.

Pellius :: ,, Uhlan, that Sardinian blade in your linked article is gorgeous. Does it have a Montmorency style 2d fuller? It looks like it does, but sword lighting can be tricky. '' It has a second fuller. But I had another look at OP's sabre. The wiring looks like the Spanish style. One single (Alpaca) wire was the norm over there. The basket is in the French M1822 style, but the ornamentation on the knuckle bow where it meets the pommel cap is different. The basket is in what could be considered a trooper style, without the usual (Officers) ornamentation on the side bars where they meet the guard plate. The scabbard does not show the typical French way of pinning the mouth piece to the scabbard body. That may be a boon because, in theory, now the mouth piece can be removed and the OP may be able to have a look at what's hidden inside. Are there wooden liners inside? Is their condition okay or should they be replaced? Anyway, all of this seems to affirm the F H provenance of the entire package, not only the blade. There could be an FH stamp on the drag too. As this sabre looks like it is an NCOs or Officers private buy there will not be any stamps further indicating its provenance, but the OP has to check that out. If this is the case (and I think it is) then the sabre will be nearly impossible to pin down. Horster exported his wares all over the globe. Heck, it may even BE French. Or from the illustrious Goolang Boolang Militia of Inner Mongolia. Or some gent from good old Borneo, formerly sporting a blow pipe, may have ordered it after thumbing through the Horster catalogue at the Mission. Who knows? Personally I am still drawn to Italy. Cheers.

Thanks for the info.
Easy for me to say, but I think the OP definitely should buy this cool slice of history!

I think so too Pellius, but it looks like the OP just went for the French 1814 Cuirassier pallasch from his other thread.
