That is a great looking sabre, quite tempted to buy one for myself…. The blade profile looks spot on as does the distal taper.
I only hope that they are clearly marked as Windlass swords, these are going to show up on the markets as antiques before long.

Nice! My Windlass US M1906 repro shows that they've always been capable of doing distal taper, they just didn't want to. And I want a bloody 1796 HC!

Well, I'm putting a guitar on the internet block as we speak...
Whoever gets the first repro better have video of slaughtered milk jugs up within 48 hours of delivery, or a pox will find thee!

That would be a good partner to the 1796 LC. Hopefully Windlass will offer the HC in 2023.

This is great news! Thank you Matt Easton and Windlass for getting this done. I really hope sales will be gigantic and other brands will follow. This is a truly epic shift away from the old ,,Nah, we've always done it this way and they buy our crap anyway, so there'' narrative!
Cheers.

Great news, very promising. Ordered one yesterday. Will probably take some time here in Germany. My main concerns with the Windlass are the durability of the knuckle guard and sharpness/edge angle. We’ll see.

Markus, very glad to hear that you ordered one. Really looking forward to hearing what you think after you put it through some use.

Just FYI MRL is running a decent coupon for Christmas. A few days left. Also, the coupon increases in value for a $400 purchase. The sword is $369, so if you spend an extra $31, it's like getting that extra item at a discount as well. I bought a Civil War for the extra bit.

Nice! Great to finally see a Windlass saber with accurate distal taper! Sharp too! I wish it came with the leather scabbard like the Cold Steel version so it can prevent dulling the edge.

I thought civil wars would be more expensive than that. That is a nice coupon deal going on there. If I hadn't have bought two pretty expensive swords recently, I might be tempted by it.

Big fan of Windlass, and I do like the Model 1796 LC Sabre. However, doesn't Windlass already make Cold Steel's version of this? They do make some of Cold Steel's swords already, right?
In any case, I already have the Cold Steel one, and I'm more in to Medieval swords. So...happy for Windlass that they're making new types of swords. I just probably won't be buying this one. Hope everyone who takes the plunge enjoys it!

I'm a bit confused, Matt's example clocks in at 8.6mm at the ricasso. But per the MRL website, they say it is 5/8" thick or 15mm. I think 8mm is closer to correct but I would be morbidly fascinated by a sabre THAT thick at the base. I would like to get a bit more clarification with a non-prototype review before committing.

They must have meant 5/16” Right?
And 1/64” thick one inch from the tip? Again, they meant 16ths, right?
Though 5/8” to 1/64” distal taper would be epic!
