Hi everbody that's more a project for the future because I am still saving for my yang ling dao
But after purchasing the yang ling dao I am interested in adding a quama to my collection. Which funtional quarma (it is going to be used for light test cutting) is the best one at the market the moment?
Would you recommend the Windlass one or the Devils Edge version?

I have the devil's edge damascus qama. I find it a bit clunky and the edges needed some serious grinding due to having big secondary edge bevels. With some serious tlc, the devil's edge is a bargain. If you are willing to spend a bit more, VT Daggers is based out of Georgia in Eastern Europe and they produce traditional qama/kindjal blades. They won't come sharpened, but they will have a single bevel that is thinner than the edge of a butter knife. I have the Devil's Edge single-edged qama and I like it for what it is. I can't say how it handles compared to others but it feels alright in my hands. It is 420 stainless steel though, so keep that in mind.
I haven't had the pleasure of handling anything from VT Daggers myself but I have read good things about 'em and they look real good too.

Do u mean the best maker or just what is available immediately, I found the windlass qama to be very decent for the price

When I made the post I was just thinking about readily available mass produced Quma. Was not thinking about going for a custom Quama when I was making the post but going custom is not an uninteresting thought to be honest. I would cost more than the standard ones but it would be worth it I think.

I understand the Windlass is decent for what it is, which is a budget-friendly replica of, if memory serves, the Red Army model from WW1/2. VT Daggers, as already mentioned, is also supposed to be very good but I've not had the privilege to handle one. Likewise, this guy has a great reputation, but I haven't handled them, either: www.etsy.com/shop/PesereyHandicrafts

randomnobody Thanks for your answer about the Windlass version and the link of the other custom maker. @lebleuchevalier Thanks for linking your review. It was a interesting read especially about the cultural/historic background of the shashka a weapon I am also quite interested in and one I do not know much about. So your informative post in the review enhanced my knowledge quite a bit.

... outside of my price range Well, yeah, if it's outside of yours...
Edit: Found his website, but no swords listed; only armor. Lots of photos elsewhere online but not much info to go with them. Boo.

Thanks for the recommendation. I checked out his work and yes his work is simply amazing. Out of my reach unfortnately. howler I have to a agree. For the price point the Windlass steel quama looks pretty good. The only drawback is that is not sharpened by default. The swordstore in question to order the Windless quama from would offer sharpening service for 29 euro extra but I am not sure if this service can be trusted. Unfortunately I am not able yet to sharpen my swords myself yet. In the long run I need to learn because I am quite interested in test cutting though. The devils edge Quama is sharp by default I believe so it looks a bit more attractive. Fortunately i have got plenty of time for addtional research. The Quama is a project for next year. As I have said in the entry post my next upcoming sword is the yang ling dao from LK Chen I am saving money for now.

So just asking without any intent of buying something is not cool.

Yeah, I'm not gonna waste the guy's time. I took a glance at the 2016 catalog he sent me, and lo and behold the most affordable piece is indeed a qama. Only 11k euros even back then which is very high end but his work is peerless and if I was more interested in this area of swords I would of considered it, wish he did some viking or migration era pieces I would of been all over it, but everyone has their specialties
