Qama/Kindjal can indeed be very high status weapons, and 11k would certainly buy one an ornate weapon. I would still advise either the Windlass or Devil's Edge qama, both of which will only require minimum modification to really perform well. A Qama by VT Daggers would look more authentic and the silvering and niello work is very good. The price is also much more reasonable than 11k.

It seems that the Windless Steel Qama is on sale now. It costs even less than it costs normally. The normal price is already a real bargain. www.samurai-katana-shop.nl/de/japanische-schwerter-nihonto-The only drawback is that is not sharp. Do you guys know if is easy to get a good edge on the windless steel quama? I cannot do it myself yet and not sure if the sharpening service of swords and more is decent... The devils edge version is on backorder at Kult of Athena now. That does not matter I wanted to get the Qama at some point next year and until that point it might be available again. That was the initial plan at least. The reduced price of the windless version is quite tempting but I do not made up my mind completly.

Your link takes me to some nihonto, nothing Windlass. As for sharpening, the only Windlass blade I own is their long-discontinued "Viking dirk" and, honestly, I just used an accusharp-like device to put an edge on it. I figured, at the time, I'd "eventually" get some good stones, blend the bevel, and polish it in...but it's been 15+ years now and I haven't cared enough.

Sorry the link was working when I posted it. And thanks for the info about the sharpening.
