No one was hurt in this testing, even though the bamboo almost flattened the cameraman, a Hong Kong Action movie director. This US 1860 Light Cavalry saber recreation is based on an antique Emerson & Silver 1864 model. lkchensword.com/us-1860-cavalry-saberWe thank Mr. Tom Nardi's Civil War Sword restoration for providing insights of the construction of this wonderful saber based on his expertise in repairing original civil war swords. swordrestorationtn.com/We are fortunate to get exact mold of the Emerson & Silver model hilt (Ames and Tiffany are similar but each company have slightly different specs) and a rare throat spring assembly that we recreate to clamp on the sword and recreating the "Woosh" sound when the saber is withdrawn from the scabbard. We also thank Mr. Nardi and his shop to offer samples of the leather and wire for the hilt he use for his professional restoration so we get the proper thickness of the wrapping leather and the exact gauge of the twisted copper wire. This bamboo cutting exercise test the structural integrity of the hilt assembly under impact shock and the cutting ability of the recreation. We hope that we do justices to the original makers of this world famous US sword.

Are you going to mark the ricasso with anything? US LK Chen 2022? That'd be awesome.

We have LF&CO on US M1913 Patton sabres, an LKC & CO would be kind of fitting

It looks like a lot of thought has gone into this one. I hope that the wood liner works as intended as steel scabbards are really hard on a keen edge. The Brits would have liked to have had such as their second greatest complaint was that rattle could be heard at great distances. The first was the rapid dulling of their sabres. I can vouch for that from personal experience. However, my largest concern is the sabre weight and balance. I’m counting on LK Chen to do justice to those characteristics. The community needs a decent M1860 repro. I’ll repeat from above that proper nomenclature on the ricasso would be a nice addition, icing on the cake if you will. The photo below is of the Ames version of a Windlass M1840 NCO sword.

So I am extremely excited for this.

That's indeed an impressive cutting video for a cavalry saber.
I'm curious about something. Given that a full wooden scabbard lining is necessary to protect an edge sharp enough to do that, does this saber scabbard have a full wooden lining? Also, did you find it necessary to resharpen the saber after use (or between cuts)? Does the saber rattle in the scabbard while being carried?

This short video might help answer some of the questions regarding preserving the sharp edge of sword.

At one time they were saying before the end of the year. I’ve heard no further.

At one time they were saying before the end of the year. I’ve heard no further. They told me the first batch already went out. My order was not among them. They said mine would be made 3-4 weeks from my order date. That was 4 weeks ago. So fingers crossed.

Ugh, that's so irritating! I could cancel my order with LK Chen, buy one from KOA, and receive it sooner. I'm not going to do that, but how frustrating.

I am not an expert in that field. However, I would thank them for their consideration and tell LK you have found one in stock and wish to cancel your order. May be someone will chime in with a better solution.

Military sabers aren't really in my wheel house but if this gets the all clear from you folks I may have to add it at some point. I'm more annoyed that it's listed as in stock on KOA before the Ribaldo but at least it spares my wallet for the time being.
