I've wanted one of these since I was in middle school. I've owned a Cold Steel 1860, but it came loose very quickly. I've well overspent this year, though...

eagerly awaiting the durability tests that I know some of our members like to put their swords through.

Yeah... between that, the 1860 and the Chang dao it's not looking good for me!

UPDATE: I got one of these this afternoon. I will write up a review as soon as I can. I'll need time to research, examine the sword in great detail, take photos, perform a test or two (or three), and then I'll be ready.
Some preliminary observations I have are the following:
1. The steel scabbard is excellent! It has a nice fit and look to it. I can also confirm that the scabbard HAS A WOOD CORE! That's right, it has a wood core. LK Chen should earn some serious brownie points there.
2. The blade thickness looks great, as does the distal taper.
3. The blade flexes a bit. Not sure if the originals were stiff or flexible, but this blade is flexible. It flexes where it ought to and has nice spring, but there you have it.
4. Compared to the Windlass replica, this is a serious upgrade in all areas. The grip feels lovely in hand, especially with the thumb up, the blade has a nice finish, the POB is about 3.75 inches from the grip, maybe less. The blade is more narrow than the Windlass version. Not sure if there are some variations between antiques or if Windlass is just off the mark with theirs, but there's a difference.
5. It feels GOOD.

Finally, some field reports are coming through. Take your time making a more thorough report to be accurate. You have already answered some of my more pressing questions, PoB and the wood core scabbard. I suppose now my only real question is edge retention due to the steel scabbard and is the core doing its job? Thank you.

I'll sheath and unsheath the sword repeatedly over several days and see what effect it has, if any.

Very promising preliminary reports The Blue Knight. I can't wait to hear more! I just wish I didn't already spend my Christmas Bonus!

I reckon I’m in the same boat with the exchange rate and inflation. Maybe next year will be better. That one is definitely on my list. And the inflation is getting better, having dropped from 13 to 8%. While not good 8 it’s better than 13. Now, if prices will only go back down. ☹

Do you have access to an antique? Or know any authenticity na2i re-enactors?

I've been enjoying the sword for a few weeks and will eventually drop a review. I've had some setbacks recently with illness.

Went ahead and got on the KoA waiting list, and may have an antique by then. There is a ginormous market for these things done right, bigger, I think than the market for the British 1796 LC Sabre.

Any long term performance/joy of ownership reviews on this item?
