So I've been discussing with Purna on and off again about doing a gladius again, I was his first ever attempt at a gladius back in 2020, here is the link to that original I had him make me which was a pomepii style. Pompeii gladius by Purna he did an amazing job back then for NEVER having even done a gladius. Fast forward to 2021 and Hardrada had Purna make him a Mainz style which was amazing and made my Pompeii look so out of place here is that link to Hardrada's gladius Mainz so this time I was prepared, I am having him make me a Fulham style with scabbard. I gave him a .pdf of measurements taken from a museum piece of a Fulham style and of course images of Fulham styles. His first question to me was the handle is bone correct, I was amazed he remembered from the few gladius he has done but that wasn't a question he asked the first time he made me mine or had access to those materials. I will update you on pictures & or videos he shares with me as he starts on this today.
Great profile so far, have I detected a slight hollow ground geometry?
Yup it would appear you have, he did it on my original pompeii gladius and I didn't mention it on purpose but between the museum image and the .pdf I gave him with measurements he automatically put that into the shape.

Looking terrific! I love a good gladius. The profile is quite similar to a spatha he made for me. What kind of hilt material(s) are you looking for him to use?

The same as last time, I really liked how they made the gladius unique, but this time he's doing a bone handle though and not wood.

Update #5, everything has been peened in place, scabbard is almost complete, all that is left to do is the brass parts of it and then she'll be on its way. Purna estimates it'll be 4 days to complete the brass work.
Not real knowledgeable about these swords, seen a lot of pictures. Know the scabbards have a lot of bling on them but was kinda digging the plain scabbard. As someone above said, sleek looking. But is going to be a great looking sword. Congrats in advance.

Beautiful looking gladius. Purna keeps getting better and better at this type. I agree with Brother Nate here about sword scabbards, especially a gladius scabbard. Roman soldiers wanted BLING on their scabbards.

It's interesting , Brother Paul, that seemingly so many collectors prefer scabbards and even swords themselves to be plain or rather plain.
It's not the way our ancestors seemed to think about these items.
I want my stuff to be covered in flavor and character.
Every inch is an opportunity for a story.
Gladius swords are no exception to this.
Same, im designing a sword to be made by Rado, and after talking to people in nihonto groups for the last few months ive learned so many of the higher end collectors prefer such plain swords...no bohi, no horimono, only minimal sori and plain dark colors for the tsuka and saya. Even had people chastice me for certain design choices even though I was directly lifting them from 400 year old museum pieces. It was a little depressing lol.
"What is a man, if not a miserable pile of swords..."

Yes he does, I was so floored by the amount of work he puts into the gladius he made me since the last time he made one for me, that I had him re-make my Pompeii design as well and so I'll have two gladius coming from him very soon. The Pompeii one doesn't have a scabbard made by him as I have one already here that will fit that one.
