Beautiful looking gladius. Purna keeps getting better and better at this type. I agree with Brother Nate here about sword scabbards, especially a gladius scabbard. Roman soldiers wanted BLING on their scabbards. Yes he does, I was so floored by the amount of work he puts into the gladius he made me since the last time he made one for me, that I had him re-make my Pompeii design as well and so I'll have two gladius coming from him very soon. The Pompeii one doesn't have a scabbard made by him as I have one already here that will fit that one. I was in the process of remodeling the spatha he made for me when I slashed my right index finger and cannot work. I'll be returning to this project shortly. There was nothing wrong with what he made for me, it just needs more pizazz.

Considering my original design was his first ever attempt at a gladius, I was more than happy with it. Now that he makes them with 3 piece construction vs the one piece construction for the guard, handle and pommel he did with mine back then I am very excited to receive it.

Oh, I’m not complaining, hope you didn’t take it that way. I just in general have a taste for what I would call simple designs. Contemporary architecture, furniture. But I also appreciate and sometimes love, shall we say bling! One of the things I love about this forum is the diversity of taste. All kinds of people from around the world having different things they like. I’m constantly being exposed to new things I didn’t know existed. Love it.

How much bling were Roman soldiers allowed to put on their gladii and scabbards?

How much bling were Roman soldiers allowed to put on their gladii and scabbards? From what I have gathered as much as you could afford, obviously the officers got payed more so they could put more on them but if you came into some wealth you could decorate to your hearts content.

Hey Paul no I didn't take it that you were complaining at all, I agree with you about all kinds of people collecting all different weapons from around the world is pretty cool and things you wouldn't imagine seeing is a nice surprise from time to time.

Hey Eric, my comment was in response to brother Nathaniel’s comment but didn’t quote him so a little confusing there. We’re all good.

Very interesting. Since the Romans had a great deal of standardization, I wasn't sure what exactly the rules were for personalizing equipment.
Of course, I think the equiis(?) tended to be more wealthy than the foot soldiers. But hey, if they were allowed, I'm sure the foot soldiers tried to make their stuff as fancy as possible!
