Hello! I was hoping some of you could help me determine the Oakshot blade type of Windlass' Windsong, as well as which guard and pommel configurations would be more or less historically accurate. Comments and pictures most welcome! Attachments:

Hey Dave, thanks for the blade info! I realize the stock hilt is pure fantasy. What I was asking is what historical types of guards and pommels would more or less fit the blade type were I to try and make this something close to a historical replica

What I was asking is what historical types of guards and pommels would more or less fit the blade type were I to try and make this something close to a historical replica Probably for guards I'd go with a, Style 1, 2, 5 or 6 Pommels, Type B, H I, or J But really anything that fits your fancy honestly.

I own a Windlass Lionheart and filed down the ridge of the diamond cross section to make it look more like a historical correct XII or XIII. The shape of the blade is attractive and I like the look of the Lionheart hilt.
But to me it makes no sense to buy one of the Windlass fantasy swords with the fancy hilts and try to make a historical correct sword by changing the hilt. Those Windlass blades are still heavy and not lively in handling due to no or even reverse distal taper.
My Hanwei/Tinker Early Medieval Single Hand Sword is a far better sword in handling and a clear Oakeshott XII and you can even buy just the blade and different hilts for it.

That's cool. I don't know, if it was a gift I'd say enjoy it as is. It is a decent looking fantasy sword and the red is pretty unique to the market. There are plenty of functional historical swords on the market. Can't say that about fantasy swords.

I second this. It's a nice fantasy sword, I was tempted to buy it. It's a bit heavy but afaik it should be a two handed sword.

I don't like the cast hilt at all. The red is gorgeous though. I intend to replace the pommel and guard because I enjoy doing it. I'll redo the grip in red as well. Now I've got an idea of where it loosely "fits" into history and I can hilt it up so it makes me happy. Thanks for the input

Now your real challenge is going to be finding hilt parts unless you plan on making them yourself. You're welcome, post your progress when you get it rehilted.
