Thanks for the link! Not the look I want, though. Looks like my father's garage...like there should be a rake and shovel and hedge clippers mixed in there and a 1976 Ford Maverick parked in front of it (light tan).

Yes, but if you make a cool wood or cloth background, this is an option. Heck, I've got a sword hung on crappy wood curtain rod mounts. Not optimal, but it works. Somewhere in the bowels of the forum, there's examples of things like hanging it by fishing cord hanging from a nail, ceiling etc. So really, sky's the limit. If you don't have to worry about the swords being flung or dropping...or even dogs/kids tounge polishing them, you're ahead on teh design front.

*chuckles*
That tongue polishing thing was funny. So was the tan Maverick.

I’ve also seen the LotR and fantasy displays with each wall hanger sword hung on its own plaque with Elvish writing or glitter glue and rhinestones and pink My Little Pony stickers all over them, but that’s not quite my style (I’d prefer blue unicorns). I guess it’s just up to your imagination and inner interior decorator, but seeing my sword hung from a thin line or, worse, an invisible magnet would keep me in a state of panic that it would fall and damage the tip and probably crack my tile floor as well.
Also, the whole Sword of Damocles thing came up in that thread and I agree. Dangling swords and participles make me nervous. I do like the idea of some sort of decoration behind the display, maybe some classic 1970s wood paneling….that’s tasteful. Nope.
I’m a divorced guy with no pets or kids with over excitable tongues, so I do have some leeway without female interference, but I’m not trying to recreate a Scottish castle armory with deer and boar heads and shields and pole arms, though that would be REALLY COOL! I just want to keep the blades in their wooden scabbards and be able to pick up and fondle them at a whim, like back when I had women in my life *sigh*. Which, let’s face it, was “almost never” because I’m a geek just like most of you guys here. The only difference between me and that Aragorn cosplay guy at the ComicCon is he’s going to break his sword hitting my skull, whereas I’ll be able to take off his arm and then chop that arm in half with a double cut. In theory…
So, I did get the rack, but it was $40 so it’s not like I’m locked in or anything. I still think a wall mounted glass case is probably the best option, both visually and for dust, and then a dehumidifier. And some blue unicorns.

Oh yeah, I used to have some wall hangers up on plaques. Looked pretty good. Probably not the most space-efficient, though.
A rack like the one pictured above is probably the best option. Mine holds eight swords, though I've got ten on it...

Hey, consider it like getting a haircut. You can always change the style...

Hey, consider it like getting a haircut. You can always change the style... But I'll look silly with a hat sitting on top of Excalibur ... embedded in my skull.

Hey, consider it like getting a haircut. You can always change the style... Agreed. I only display a few swords at a time, so my little exhibit changes periodically.

Haha, no; I've got two very skinny swords in the bottom rack and another balanced across the top.

For a combination of visibility, accessibility and yet safety I'm still an advocate of simple wire shelving like this. Vertically stored, blades out of scabbards, scabbards next to them, whatever. Complex hilts never a problem. (You can even leave out the middle shelf for better visibility.) Just need a good wooden shelf/panel underneath for tips to rest on, unless you like poking your carpet. And can hold a lot of swords or just a few. But has a nice compact footprint either way. Heck of a good way to somehow have a lot on display if you want without it overwhelming the room (or scaring the hell out of visitors). www.google.com/shopping/product/15483519382977309791

HA! ...and not 3 ft. to my left we have the exact tables you recommend! Maybe I'll take one home and try it out. Trouble with this is... I really need it on the wall. My condo is less than 900 sq ft and I bump into stuff just turning around as it is. Last thing I need is to kick a double edged weapon in my bare feet! Attachments:

Just make sure the lowest shelf is set at the lowest possible setting. It's only an inch or so off the ground then--and keeps your feet away from the edges and point quite well!

I had a similar question last year: sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/post/835400/threadFramed a plywood board backed with canvas and mounted the swords with CAS hooks, the cost of the hooks quickly adds up unfortunately. But I’m happy with the finished result, even if it is a bit rough on the edges: sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/post/842563/threadI made a smaller one for my smallswords, and will be making a third one in the future. Don’t forget to post up your finished project!

Ooh, that turned into a very nice display. If my room wasn't absolutely trashed, I'd throw in a quick shot of what I've got on my wall, but so little of it is swords or sword-related...

Here's the final result for now. Im getting a stand that holds 2 katanas, so the bottom two swords will go on that and sit on my coffee table and my other medieval sword that isn't here yet (ATrim arming sword) will go in their place. And that's it....for now. Maybe I'll splurge again next Christmas!

Just for consideration, I ran across these while looking for some brackets. I used to hang my guitars, but just use stands now. But these would work really well for hanging them vertically, though the width is limited. Excalibur barely fit inside the hooks and actually cut some of the padding. The ATrim arming sword is very wide at the hilt so I thought it probably wouldn't work. But if you had a collection of narrow blades, it's a good option. Attachments:
