First stain came out too orange. The bottom part is dark on both photos because of lighting.
Right now has this on it. Will probably keep it.

Changed out the steel ring strap dividers on this Christian Fletcher baldric for a couple of replica bronze pieces from the Viking era.

Quick tip. Absolutely make sure you test your dye. This one was supposed to be Fiebing's light brown with a medium brown antique treatment. It turned out to be a redish or purplish color not even offered in the line of dyes. Doesn't look bad at all, just not what it was supposed to be.

was it that color from the dye alone or did the red/purple effect happen once the antiquing stain was added? Dyes and stains don't always play the way you expect them to.

I didn't bother trying the antiquing stain once I saw the color of whatever was in the bottle. So besides a light top coat of Fiebing's resolene, which really didn't change any color, it is as from the bottle of 'light brown'. I took the scabbard back to Tandy with the rest of the bottle of dye. Was told that they have had a problem with a different color being bad, from the factory, but this was the first time the light brown was not right. Not much can be done about it now. But I kind of like the color, it just resembles one that I already have. The 'Pro' Dye line doesn't even have this color in it's line up. lol

OK, further progress. Adding a baldric. Leather strips which I used an edge beveler, edge slicker and glass burnisher. Dyed them black. Brass rivets that I put a patina on. Using a Christian Fletcher baldric as a template, I put this together. I am still waiting for a buckle to punch belt holes and attach the last piece of leather.

I am planning on making these same scabbards for my Albions, but the one question standing out in my mind is whether the wood marrs the blade at all after repeated use. Do you notice any scratches or marking of the blade, especially near the guard or the point? Is it ok to repeatedly sheath and draw your sword from an unlined wood scabbard?
