Anyway, I've found that I prefer using it in what I've learned in my Bo-staff days The bo is the bases on which all other pole arms are taught. Many schools will teach the bo as prerequisite for other weapons. I knew this but didn’t appreciate it at the time. Now you can justify in buying that truck you've had an eye on. 😁 I love Bo staff. But every single time I say bow staff, I think of napoleon dynamite and remember it's what he considers the pinnacle of cool. I think I'll just lie and say quarterstaff from now on

Got a hickory ice breaker shovel thing handle. It's not as long but it's not a piece of pine with a big crack down the length of it either the entire thing is still longer than 6', which is my height (it's likely about 6'2").

Decided to get a smaller spear head, for the purpose recommended to me. It's not the windlass euro, but one I found on ebay for much cheaper 10.5" over all with a 5" blade. I can see this being perfect. For either throwing or a long spear/pike. Looks sturdy too. I also got greaves from the same seller.

That looks good Djjinja. In the picture it looks like a bead blasted finish. Is is just a satin finish? I’m on mobile so pics aren’t always the clearest. Was this a new or used item and do they have more? Do you have a link or name of seller? Thanks and congrats.

I look forward to your thoughts when you get it. They’ve got some good stuff looks like and some mall ninja stuff too. Glad they gave you free shipping. That stops me from buying things sometimes.

Yea same here. There was nice windlass spears on reliks, but at 20$ shipping, this eBay store was a steal in comparison. There are other spearheads I am looking into, like one made entirely of iron. Gotta keep the fae away somehow

Got the spearhead. It's heavy in the hand, but it is light as heck on a pole. I can hold it quite a ways down the staff, which itself is very light too. It's also super blunt. Might need a grinder to make it sharp, but I think I can get it pointy with only my file and a lot of time. This would be great for throwing, if I get a hickory shaft similar to the other spear, which would be stronger and easier to throw, due to being shorter. But my cold steel is even lighter and it's sharp, and I coukd throw it much farther

Looks like it's a casting, which is probably why it's heavy for its size (thick socket walls). But if it's small, "heavy for its size" is still light, so all OK.

Yea that's actually a good way to put it. It's such a light spear, I love it. I can see why Zen recommended the euro, it is likely like this but better

Turns out.. The small spear head makes the coolest end cap. I can't take a pic as it's too damn big. It's nearly 7 feet tall. Excellent counterweight and it just looks so cool
I understand the Greek idea of a spear. This heavy over cast spread head makes a super counter weight. Even if my hewing spear broke off, I can reverse grip it and have an excellent stabbing spear

I have the European Spear Head...its mounted on a ash shaft and the overall length of my spear is 74 inches. This works out for a great length for me... The spear head sharpens quickly and cuts well. I lightly hit the spear head and butt cap with a mix of gun blue , browning and oil...the shaft was first rubbed with nitric acid and then given a oil finish. If you want another spear...I would suggest the European Spear head. Andy Pictures enlarge if you click on them.

Gotta agree with Djjinja, that looks great. I like the tips about the bluing, bronze and oil finish. Share stuff like that and you will be very popular around here. Not lying. Again, fantastic. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum if I haven’t already done so.

Thanks for the welcome. I have found that it works best to let the bluing and browning set for a day...then hit it with oil and bronze wool. 'Course every bit of metal will be different...so try it one way...then another...
A little bit of cold blue paste ...just a dab smeared around..followed with a bit of oil on a Q-Tip rubbed into the blue , just after the blue starts to work...does a neat effect for patina and coloring on metal as well.
