Interesting video!
I’m wondering, many months later, have you used for training or cutting? How did it hold up? Are all the fittings still tight?

Interesting video! I’m wondering, many months later, have you used for training or cutting? How did it hold up? Are all the fittings still tight? I've used it for forms and training but no actual cutting yet. Plan on posting the follow up reviews by next month which will have plenty of cutting footage in them. Been working on collecting targets over the winter to use on all the swords I've reviewed on the channel.

Are you doing a rewrap because your customer wants to pimp the sword, or is there a problem with the original wrap?

No, there's nothing inherently wrong with the sword or tsuka, I'm just doing standard customization for the owner. it actually feels pretty good in hand, imo but I only have the tsuka so can't comment on the handling of the complete sword.

Handles a lot like a Hanwei Orchid in regards to balance and weight. Maybe a little lighter than the Hanwei.

Do you think it will be a good cutter, or it’s more for light/soft targets?

Do you think it will be a good cutter, or it’s more for light/soft targets? I think it would be fine, honestly I don't see anything with the blade that would limit it from cutting tatami or bamboo. It has a slimmer blade profile but that in my opinion just adds to the good balance. Thickness of the blade is equal to other production katana promoted for heavy cutting like Ronin Dojo Pros or Hanwei.

Thanks for the review. I just ran across some Dragon Kings on Amazon the other day and was unclear whether they were a new line from Hanwei or what and whether they were any good. Looking forward to your follow up review. I’m getting the itch for a new sword and am leaning towards a Nihonto. If a Nihonto, I’m currently eyeing Ronin or Huawei.

Looking forward to your follow up review. I’m getting the itch for a new sword and am leaning towards a Nihonto. If a Nihonto, I’m currently eyeing Ronin or Huawei. Please note that while the word Nihonto literally means “Japanese sword”, the term is usually only used for swords that are actually made in Japan and therefore not Chinese production swords. Katana is typically used for each Japanese style sword, regardless of the origin. I’m not sure on how Dragon King is related to Hanwei. The are both manufactured in the Chinese province of Dalian, so not Longquan like most other forges. But I don’t know whether they are independent of each other or have the same owners or so. Huawei and Ronin also have a good reputation.

I have recently purchased one.. the hamon on mine is very prominent and I suspect they have started to use acid etch to bring it out more (which i don't like..)

That's kinda expected I'm sure a few were complaining about a "lack of a hamon" or if it really had one so they started etching to bring it out. Oh well it's kinda expected at the price point anyway.
