Has anyone noticed the disappearance of ammo from the stores and the online sellers? Went to buy some bulk FMJ ammo yesterday on Midway, and the site kept crashing. Finally got in, and all the normal stuff I buy was out of stock. I haven't been out locally but friends report runs on all the ammo in Cabelas, Scheels, etc.
It's like 2008 all over again! I hope not. Good weather is coming, and I want to do some shooting.

Everyone calls the people panic buying toilet paper idiots. Same applies for these guys. All it does is make it harder for everyone else. You'll be seeing bulk ammo on gunbroker for triple the price in the next few weeks I guarantee you.
If you need it, buy it while you can. Online retailers are already jacking prices up.

I live next door to a gun range so I mainly buy target stuff for trips out there. I won't shoot up my hunting and SD loads. Luckily it also has archery ranges--arrows don't need reloading!

Apparently, a lot of people are gearing up for the Zombie Apocalypse rather than a real pandemic.

Seems to be especially concentrated on 9mm, 7.62x39, and 5.56. I can still get .40 and ,357 Sig for close to normal prices. Some stuff, like 5.45mm is dirt cheap still.
Crazy times we live in.

Realistically, you only need as much high-quality JHP +P ammo as it takes to fill all your magazines in the pistol you already carry daily.
Bulk-buying FMJ ammo to go with your two or three mags and your rifle with the red dot that may or may not be properly zeroed, you're not sure, is laughable. And that's what most people do.

True, but I do run the JHP through my carry guns occasionally to ensure the mags and gun function as expected. I restock when it goes on sale. I also shoot a few of my hunting loads each year to make sure they are hitting where they need to. But the bulk of my target shooting is FMJ.

But I think anyone panic buying ammo probably has visions of multi-year apocalyptic breakdowns where there are no police and no ammo resupply. Even in the worst of situations in the U.S. like the L.A. riots or Katrina, I can't imagine realistically firing more than between 0-several mags worth of ammo.

People always panic buy ammo. It's been going on for the last 30 years. Everytime something happens. If the zombie apocalypse comes I'd have more of a tough time deciding on which rifle to lug around.

In fact at this point, I think it's just going to be groceries and any necessary maintenance for us. This economic situation is making me nervous. My work has slowed to a crawl this week, but at least I have more time to read the forum.

I buy on sale and stock up. Plenty of AR, AK, and numerous rounds for multiple revolvers and semiautos. Do not keep much on hand for the old surplus rifles but have some for each....lol The ammo and TP hoarders might be a major force to reckon with.....lol

I'm going to be very disappointed in society if I have to use up one round of ammo because of all this. That being said, I have plenty if things came to that. Plus a small collection of swords that won't run out of ammo. lol

I'll stake out an individual pistol bay and poke some holes in paper.
