Congrats Dave! I know you'll give us some accurate measurements (weight and pob, especially), some sweet cutting action and hopefully a look "under the hood" at the grip construction!

A grip on a sword is only a secondary consideration. Beat the crap out of it and tear it to shreds. Way to go, Dave.

I'll buy what's left of it, unless it absolutely becomes the 'Shards of Narsil'.

Thanks everyone for the support! Already planning out the template for the video review and thanks to the site upping the amount of attachable pics there will be plenty of pics for the written review as well as detailed stats. Looking at pics the bolts holding the grip and nut on the pommel are star or "torx" heads. Be interesting to see how these compare to the more standard hex nuts seen on Valiants and H/T models. The grip too from what I read is a rubber material and not the hard polymer the pic makes it seem. The hilt parts seem moderately historical with the guard having a Style 2 look to it and the pommel being a grooved Type T. The blade has a similar profile to a Type XVI though it does have that CASIberia type little riccasso at the base. Definitely plan on putting it through it's paces as well as a tear down of the hilt. The tang is going to be a focus of the review as obviously a proper tang is a make or break point of functionality. It does come with a leather wrapped wood core scabbard with frog so that seems a bonus as opposed to the more "tactical" kydex sheath most of these tactical/modern swords come with. As far as targets go give me some suggestions and I may (if I'm able to acquire them that is) put them in the cutting video. I don't really plan on purposely destroying the blade on ridiculous targets as I feel that doesn't really do much outside risk injury and prove steel isn't tank slicing admimantium, lol. But It will definitely get some light to heavy targets of varying density. I'll be focusing on the factory edge too, if it's sub par or dull I'll give a few cuts out of the box and then give it a edge and see what it does with a proper edge as well. This is going to be fun as this is my first product test review and I can't wait to get it in my hands to get it posted! We'll see how much of it is left or how much I like it after the review, how does that sound christain?

Probably the hilt construction is the same as on my Boshin katana, at least it looks so. I could screw off and remove the bolts but the grip still was glued on the tang, I stopped disassembling then. I used the matching nuts from my set for screwing off but after 2 or 3 times some of the nut holes in the screws are not gripping any more because the metal is too soft. When I got the kat the hilt was solid but after this action there's a little play between sword and grip. Nothing dangerous I think, but a bit annoying. Better don't screw off the bolts except you want to see the tang despite the glue. Of course I would like to see the tang without the grip.

Congrats nddave. Like Andi said I would like to see the tang under the grip. I just checked my boshin wak and the screws are torx size t-10. You will need two to remove them and they are soft like Andi said. Looking forward to the review.

Thanks for the info, I have a set of torx drivers and bits that have been lying around unused for years. Funny how I have a use for them finally, lol.

When you removed it did you have to cut it off or just soften the glue?

It's probably very hard rubber - or some plastic that feels like very hard rubber. It's harder than the grip of my Gerber Gator folder. An a little bit softer grip like on my Gator would be a good idea on a modern sword, grippy and shock absorbing. The Boshin grip is too hard for this.
I didn't remove the grip after removing the bolts because it's glued on the tang and I didn't want to crack the construction. The tang was visible in the holes and it looked thick enough.
I just compared the bolts/nut holes in the picture of the broadsword with the ones on my Boshin kat. They're different, bigger and probably better on the broadsword.
