I'll admit, that sword does look interesting. I don't know why we haven't seen more "classic" patterned medieval style swords with modern grip materials. The A.P.O.C. line comes to mind, but their short blade length and lack of a real guard keeps me from getting one. I'd be interested in knowing the weight, pob, and tang/grip construction, not to mention handling impressions from a reviewer here.
I'm sure anyone here who's put their name forward would do a great job, but I'll add another vote for Aikidoka. His cutting videos are some of the best around and it would be cool to see just what a sword from United Cutlery could do in his hands.

Another ballot for Matthew Jensen into the mix. Aikidoka would be cool as well.

OMG - members of this forum actually volunteering to touch a United Cutlery sword ! What is this world coming to ? Indeed. Should be out of the question... ;-) I might do it though - but only if it comes with a free insurance against the "helicopter"... Wasn't too much impressed with the bent and twisted UC Boshin katana blades here in Germany (three tries); and what we have seen in the grip of that infamous UC Honshu TacWak didnt help at all. Dont get me wrong, speaking of design i like UC's stuff a lot - i just trust in their construction capabilities as far as i can throw my new car!

Hey Darth, can you provide a link to the pictures of the Honshu tac wak hilt? I’ve looked and can’t find any on any of the Honshu tac lineup. I’ve seen the review and pictures of the Munetoshi tac wak on this forum.

Sorry still haven’t figured out how to do the quote function properly. But what you said is the reason I haven’t done a review on my first sword the Honshu boshin wakizashi. First all the UC haters come out then all the tactical haters join in. I love that little sword even with all its little flaws but I would like to get a look under the hood. Just don’t want to cut off the grip.

But i doubt it will ever happen. And by the way, i LOVE tactical stuff - a lot. Problem is there are SO many much better options than buying UC's SLO things: * Zombie Tools (best bang for buck IMHO) * Hanwei Tactical series (bang for buck) * Miller Bros. (expensive) * Dragon King Tactical series (bang for buck) * Condor Tactana (bang for buck) * Condor Dadao * Barry Dawson (expensive) on and on and on...

I hate all this hate in the world! Best bang for buck are the CS machetes. ZT is best in this section but also buckie, Hanwei & co are good. The UC stuff isn't bad for 100-150 bucks if you like the special Honshu/Boshin design. We need more reviews!

A manufacturer wants to let people review a sword for free and folks are still whining. Come on, this is ridiculous.

Hey Darth, that wasn’t an attack on my part against you at all. I know you don’t like uc and that’s fine. And I know you do like tactical because I’ve read a lot of your texts and enjoyed them. The two groups are not always the same. Mainly just was saying why I’ve been hesitant to do a review. What I really want to see is pictures of the exposed tang. I’ve searched and can’t find any. I took the screws off mine but don’t know how to get the pommel off and don’t want to damage it. I agree on wanting less hate everywhere. If there is an actual problem with a product that someone has had then it’s great to let everyone know. I’ve learned a lot from these warnings and from this site and forum. That being said if you show something tactical on here then some just jump all over it for not being historically accurately, it’s ugly and so on. I’m pretty much bargain basement right now so that’s all I have in swords I’ve bought. Maybe I’ll do a review sometime. Again no offense meant.

Let's not bring other forums into this, please. They all have their wheelhouses and that's just fine.
I look forward to seeing what the thoughts on this sword are from whoever is chosen as the tester. Good on the company for sending test swords out, hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised.

Since I am a manufacturing engineer by trade and training, plus my years of sword practice, that makes me the most qualified of all forum members to be the one to review the sword. Sorry guys, it's just how these things go... better luck on the next lottery....

The supplier has spoken, and a winner has been chosen... And the winner is... Drumroll....
ndave! There are no conditions to the testing, only that it start out with standard targets it should be able to handle with no problems and then can escalate from there as much as you want to.. Also, they wanted to clarify something regarding the screws: "All of our honshu swords are loctite glued on the screws. They aren't intended to be disassembled like traditional swords. Thought I would pass that along." So ndave, please PM me with your address details and we will get it out to asap! Thanks to everyone else for contributing, hope we can do this more often..!
