Well, most people here have a sword or two, right? And I know many of you have many swords. So what do you do with them? How do you hang or display them? Thought this might be a fun discussion. ![:)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I'm personally interested in some techniques for safely hanging sharp swords in areas where they could potentially be bumped into. Is there a subtle way of shielding the sharp edge?

I would suggest keeping in its scabbard. I have one of mine displayed over my TV and one sitting on top of my desk.

Here is a great recent addition to the forum:
/index.cgi?board=collections
People can post pictures of their collections here, but there is no formal place to comment. There have been a lot of very creative and elegant solutions to sword storage and display.

Isn't it considered quite bad for a carbon blade to be left in the scabbard? :-\
Thanks for that link! I admit, I hadn't found that forum yet...

I have had no ill effects of storing my swords in woodcore scabbards. Leather can be another story sometimes.

I find it to be a good practice to every now and then pull the saya loose of the habaki basically unseating the blade but still leaving it in the saya while its sitting in a kake stand. This will allow the blade and saya to "breathe" and will still keep the cutting edge safely covered and free of dust.

That's great news about the scabbard. ![:D](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) I was under the impression that it's a total no-no to leave swords enclosed for very long (I guess it's good to take them out now and then anyway, but..). See, my prime wall space in my room is right above my bed...I kinda didn't fancy a sharp sword hangin there. I prefer "The Sword of Damocles" to be a metaphor. Good tip, Jim! I shall keep that in mind. ![:)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I use sword magnets...you have to clean the swords all the time to keep them free from dust...however, they look like they are floating on the wall.

right now I don't display mine at all, they are locked in a closet and boxed up when not in use. I would not normally prefer this but out of sight is out of mind and locked up is even better. You see, I have a very smart, very creative, very determined three-year-old boy who just loves swords and he has a six-year-old brother to help him in his plots though the six year old isn't quite as fond of swords (he likes them just not as much). both of my boys are very smart, and when I say that I mean freakishly frighteningly smart. So, I have to keep my blades locked up for now. they are good kids and probably wouldn't mess with them without permission if I laid the law down with them, but. . . sooner or later the litte one is going to go for it. So yeah, I display my swords in the darkest corner of a locked closet. ![:'(](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/cry.png)

While you wait for your kids to grow old enough that you feel safe with the swords out you can devise various ways of displaying them, and make a big unveiling in a few years when the time comes! ![;)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

That's one of those great inventions that when you hear about it, you kick yourself because you didn't think of it! I think you just solved my sword display problem so +1 to you ;D

What is it about my forbidden closet of mystery that you find so appealing?

I use coat hooks currently, same way you might use nails, but more polished looking. I just saw these PoB displays at Albion yesterday. www.albion-swords.com/sword-displays.htm I'm going to make some myself, if I can find a way to keep my cats away from them.

All of the swords that I own currently are nothing more than wall hangers. I would not cut with them even if my life depended on it. >.> <.< Well one I might if I absolutely had to. I am planning my first real sword which I intend to by later this year or early next year. Right, Brian of DBK? -_^

i have a sword rack , i just sheath em and put em on *nods* mind you they are all katana. (i think that does not need an s at the end) a few nicer ones on their own table display stands. and one stays in a display box when not in use
