It seems to me that the only single edge swords that I am interested in are the Japanese katana. All others are of the double edge variety. Does anyone else have this affliction?

I rather like katana, but have been wanting a saber or backsword (is that even a type?) for a while. I only ever use one side of my double-edgers, anyway. Keep forgetting there are two.

I like 'em all. That's my problem. I have managed to narrow things down to the hand-and-a-half (bastard) as my favorite double edger and 18-19th Century sabers as my favorite single-edgers. Of course, I also like katanas, wakizashis, dao, da dao, shamshirs, talwars, single handers, zweihanders, etc., etc... ;D

I could go for a nice shamshir, myself. Even a Tulwar.
I'd kil--er--be thrilled if I could acquire a yataghan.

I like Falchions. They really kinda stick out from other medievil swords.

I'm with krieg. My favorite double edgers are the hand and a half variety, but I like one handers, falchions, katanas, daggers, and just about everything else to varying degrees. Thats before we add maces, axes, polearms and bows to the mix.

I agree with random, my favourite weapon and one which I have been tryng to get ahold of for years is a decent yatagan with up swept tip.

Yeah I have a Yat on the cards. Or at least that style of slender S shaped blade. Or the type that sweeps down at the point. Or all of them....
I love my Falchion too.. It's max fun.

I like my Katana but I have taken a slight interest in Scottish back swords also.

I'm very fond of my Armour Class mortuary w/ single edge back-sword blade , my CAS / Hanwei Cromwell mortuary w/ back-sword blade and my Windlass Scottish Back-sword ( rather chuffed about this particular dis-continued sword)......oh.....almost forgot the CAS / Hanwei Dark Sentinel......

I got more responses on this than I anticipated. Though, I cannot say that I am surprised at the variety of preferences.
I must say that some of the other types of swords are starting to catch my eye more. Scimitars, sabres, rapiers. I still am not too fond of the hulking claymores, bastards, and great swords. Too big. I only like big on my guns. >XD

If it's a sword, I like it. it's just that easy. like all things though, I move in cycles. Right now I'm on a serious katana cycle, but I couldn't resist grabbing a basket hilt broad recently. single handers are what I prefer in a fighting situation but I don't have any one style of one-hander that I like above the rest.
