I think I'm actually fondest of Sting, to be honest. Such a handy, unassuming yet pretty little bugsticker.

Yeah, I'm getting Windlass' take on it when budget allows. The Windlass Blacksword is too fantastical for me. Turin is right up there as one of my favorite characters. I've often thought of getting a sword that was sort of Gurthang in my own mind. My mind went in two different directions. One was to have a sword with a damascus blade. I love the look of damascus or folded steel. But it didn't quite line up with the very brief but specific description of Gurthang in the books. So, second idea was to have a sword that had everything blackened. Again, I don't care for fantasy swords that much. Much prefer historically based ones. So, what really came to mind was just getting another Windlass Arbedo, and having everything blued/blackened. That, for me, would almost be an ideal Gurthang. That is something I hadn't considered, will have to put some thoughts on this.

Certainly we all have different interpretations of what our favorite swords and characters should look like. It was just something that easily came to mind, because I really like the Arbedo. Of course, if its something you ever really consider, its a great thing that KoA brought back the Arbedo!

My favorite of the film designs is Gúthwinë, Éomer's sword.

Using the film swords only: Aragorn's Ranger sword, Boromir's sword and finally Sting

My favorite of the film designs is Gúthwinë, Éomer's sword. Its too bad the movies side-lined Eomer for much of the running time, and gave many of his deeds and actions to Theoden. Otherwise, we'd have gotten to see more of Guthwine and Eomer. Of the three main Rohir hero swords (Theoden's, Eomer's, and Eowyn's), I like Eowyn's the best, then Eomer's, and lastly Theoden's. Main reason is that Eowyn's looks the lightest and easiest to use. Theoden's sword looks really heavy and unbalanced. Other posters have mentioned their fondness for Sting. I just can't get in to it; for such an iconic sword, I think they really fumbled the design. I find it pretty boring, actually. Part of it is that I can't get over my aforementioned distaste for the Elvish designs throughout the movie. I've talked about it already, but I think the designs for Merry and Pippin's Barrow Blades are so much better than Sting and better than Frodo and Sam's Barrow Blades. Such a waste that those swords get almost no screen time.

Isildur's sword is probably my favorite of the Lord of the Rings swords. Here's my top 5 list, - Isildur's Sword
- Glamdring
- Denethor's Sword
- Faramir's Sword
- Strider's Sword
Here you go Siward, 1.

If we're talking Anglachel/Gurthang, we cannot ignore Brendan's take: www.fableblades.com/Gurthang.htmlOnly thing I'd change would be the grip (darker wood, maybe ebony or ironwood)

Is there anywhere that has all the swords side by side ?
I know the core swords in the film but people are throwing up ones I’ve never heard of and have no idea what they look like, and in the case of Eomer the only time I remember him drawing his sword was in the relief of helms deep and I’ll have to go back and see that bit again to see the sword.
Hence my question at the beginning.

I only own two swords, United Cutlery's Anduril and Rittersteel's Warlord sword. I love Anduril. If I could, I would buy all of UCs Lord or the Rings swords. If I do get a second LOTR sword it will be Glamdring, followed by Strider's pre-Anduril sword.

Oddly enough, my favorite (from a collectors standpoint) would be the Shards of Narsil. That would be the most bad-ass display in my man-cave---EVER. A broken, splintered sword...destined to become SO MUCH MORE. (I haven't read through this entire thread, so if someone already mentioned 'Shards'----HELL YEAH!!! )

(I haven't read through this entire thread, so if someone already mentioned 'Shards'----HELL YEAH!!! ) The sword that was broken is archetypal. As a recurring motif in myth and legend, I think it has the most significance to the story. The line of kings was broken, like the sword, but it was remade by the divine. The most common misconception about the sword, and it's made in the film, is that it is of Elvish make. Not so. Telchar, a Dwarf, made Narsil.

Well, I'm not digging into Tolkein Mythology...I just think it would be a cool display.
