Hi everybody, So its kinda sad to see these models go but I figured if any of you were interested in them now is the time to buy. Of course other vendors like KultofAthena still have them in stock but as we know once MRL puts a sword on the Last Chance page, it means Windlass is taking them out of production. Here's the swords on the page, some of them with only 5 or less left. Homildon Hill: sad to see this one get discontinued, one of the best theyve ever made. Only 5 left. Battlecry Culloden Baskethilt: Glad I have this one, it's a great handling Baskethilt that looks great too. Only 2 left. Leuterit Viking: Nice looking Viking with a wide blade and from what I've read great handling. Only 4 left. Raptor: Not my favorite design but it has reviewed well and been a fan favorite for many years. Only 1 left. Sword of Avalon: A nice looking Type XV with a fantasy themed hilt. Says still in stock. Sword of Tancred: a nice looking sword with a decent scabbard and belt. Almost picked this one up a few years ago but opted for the Homildon Hill instead. Pretty much the Ridley Scott Robin Hood Sword with a leather grip. Only 5 left in stock. There's other items there as well such as a few daggers, a LARP Steampunk katana and the Marto Free Mason sword, oh and that "Warehouse Find" Rapier but those are the main swords. www.museumreplicas.com/last-chance-swords-knives-daggers#/pageSize=8&viewMode=grid&orderBy=0

That's quite surprising seeing the Homildon on their axe-list. Seems like it has been a strong seller....especially to members HERE. Raptor, too. The old quarterly catalog won't seem the same.

What's really odd to me is seeing a Battlecry model up for last chance. Maybe the Battlecry line isn't performing as well as expected? Too bad if true, I was hoping to see more models come out. Hopefully Windlass isn't going full on glitz and threaded pommels like their recent offerings have shown. The models are kinda like functional Marto swords and kinda disappointing in both stats and evem design. Spendy too at the $300+ mark for most of them.

Of those on the list, I only have experience with the Avalon. If you're eager to flesh out your medieval sword typologies, and are in need of a Type XV, its one of the few on the mass production market below $250. Heck, might be the only one. I like mine, though I wish it had a more historical pommel. Light, and very well balanced.
Of the other swords on the list, the Sword of Tancred is the most attractive to me. Not enough to buy it, but it still looks like a nice sword.

I think the thing with the Battlecry basket hilt is that most people probably don't see that type of sword as being all blackened-out. They're expecting some 'flash' from a Scotty basket.

The heck? Discontinue the Homildon Hill and release this...this....this thing...in the same timeframe? www.museumreplicas.com/windsong-the-sword-of-kingsI sure hope MRL gets back to historical replicas (staying true to their name) rather than continue with all these fantasy oddities they seem to be focusing on more and more. KoA's recent deals with Windlass products are so much more appealing

In the fantasy sense it seems the "good guy" sword to their "bad guy" Blacksword. Yea I almost bought a Tancred but what turned me off was the threaded pommel. Should've been expected as it was a reissue of the Robin Hood but KoA had it advertised as peened when I initially ordered it.

Probably, more than likely its the weaker seller of the line so they're getting rid of it. Too bad its a nice sword but I get what you're saying about the all black look.

I mean they do a winner with the Ashdown Viking then release that Leif Erickson Marto thing, then those goofy fantasy king and Excalibur swords. Now their most recent two are semi-historical but just look odd. I mean they're not horrible, the Crusader Templar really isn't that bad and better in my opinion than the Accolade Templar. That Bannockburn just looks funny. The long double fullers and the diamond cross section just doesn't mesh, as well as the guard and grip.

The Ashdown is a nice sword, but the Leif Erickson was...interesting (I liked it until I studied it, and then...yeah), and then, as you put it, they sort of have gone off the goofy end with some of their recent fantasy products. All the dragon eggs and statues and what not has me convinced they're seeing opportunities branching out into fantasy niche and cosplay more than historical arms and armor. Also agree the new Templar stuff just sort of falls short compared to the nice clean designs of KoA's revived Windlass offerings.

The entire Battle Cry line had gone on sale soon after release. Windlass often lists stuff in the closeout section to move product, or indeed usher in a notice of discontinuing an item. Closeouts as a markeing ploy looks better than overstock at times. The entire Museum Replicas site had been catering to costuming and faire goers for a long long time. Even in the 1990s, we started seeing more costumes than weapons in the catalogs.

The Homildon and Avalon have always interested me. Shame they're being discontinued. The Avalon I could understand, it being an XV but the Homildon has always seemed popular and looks like a good cutting and display sword.

Man, those are sad.
My collecting and budget took a serious hit when the deal of the day went away.
Hopefully that returns some day..
I picked up a raptor when it was discontinued. I dig functional fantasy swords, and I was very pleased with it. It's a handy blade that reminds me of something drizzt would wield, or maybe a functional orcrist.
I always like the sword of homildon hill, but I have so many above that priority wise.
I really would love to grab a towton, arbedo and coustille from koa before those go away.
