I picked up a second hand Freddy IV spear and had some remorse after in finding the spear it represents is larger. click here for information and dimensionsDon't get me wrong, the spear is quite nice and stout. You can save some money if they will sell you just the head. All A&A spears are cast and not heat treated (imo no heat treating needed). The Hanwei spears are good and stout cast. GGGodwin has a lump of a spear for short bucks and other more expensive partizan, halberd and spontoon. Some makers of blades also do spears. I bought a very nice leaf yari type from Chris Makin, who hasn't been around lately. An F IV, Hanwei spontoon, gggodwin black beauty pike $30! and the Makin leaf. Only the A&A came with a haft, all the others fitted by me. One with a flagpole and the other two bo staffs. On the gggodwin sales, confirm stock via email or phone. The Hanwei spontoon set discontinued but really very good.

It's the steel on the inside that counts.

You might take a look at Wulflund. Some pretty nice forged pieces there. www.wulflund.com

I believe Damian Sulowski also does spears, could give him a poke and get exacly what you want, forged and not cast.

Josh Davis would probably do a high end custom.

Does the Hanwei Yari count as a higher end spear? Differently hardened blade, and a rattan wrapped shaft, with some metal bits on it

Does the Hanwei Yari count as a higher end spear? Differently hardened blade, and a rattan wrapped shaft, with some metal bits on it As far as my wallet goes, yes. Keith Larman was impressed with the blades but that was long ago and several price increases ago. Kris Cutlery had sold blades at one point but they are long gone. My little Japanese style lance blade was actually a bargain and done by Chris Makin. That was hafted with part of a tapered oak bo amd cane ferrules with leather cord. A convenient coin and trolley token became part of the fitment, as they already had holes to start with. I like both of the Hanwei yari and there is still one listed in the old Reinhardt collection. www.hankreinhardt.com/Sale/Pole%20arms/pole%20arms%20093.htmI don't know of the seller is active but there are other items still listed as well. Cheers GC

Cheers GC I love the look of that spear. It looks solid. Like you could use it as a bludgeon just as well.
