Here is a knife I finished up today! On a roll:thumbup:! Steel: W1 from Aldo (thanks again Aldo!) quenched in BRINE (woo scary:eek:) Handle: Amboyna burl scales (thanks again Mike!), 3 brass pins Length: 10 11/16ths overall Blade: 7 1/16th Handle: 3 5/8ths Taper: a hair over 1/4 thick at the butt, down to 1/8th at the tip POB: right in front of the handle Fit and finish: Satin finish on the blade, handle sanded to 400 grit then scotch brited then boiled linseed oiled, a few scratches here and there, SHARP. Overall impression: A bit miffed the handle is short, not unusable short you can still get a full grip on it no problem, but would have been nice to have atleast another 1/2 inch. Other than that VERY happy with how it turned out, did I mention SHARP??!? Comments and critique welcome!

very cool stuff. one quick question/comment: don't knives classified as fighters usually have a sort of lip or guard to protect the hand from slipping up the blade?
looks gorgeous, sam.

I think I understand why you would wish for a little bit more handle but it looks very sweet Sam. maybe I just don't know something, but what's with the notch in the blade? it looks like you did it on purpose but it also looks like a big chip that got worked out. care to elaborate on your reasons for putting it in? or did it just look good?

Shiny. Too shiny. What IS the story with the notch? (Oh, right, very nice. )

I think it looks cool. I think I would want a longer handle and a small guard but that is just my preference. Just looks possibly dangerous if your using it and your hand slips.

Thanks everyone! Jason, usually yes a guard atleast, poor planning on my part, but still an effective shape for fighting with , more of a utility knife though. The "mystery notch" hehe is to mark the end of the sharp edge, to make sharpening easier looks cool too. Thansk DJ, I hope so! Weight is .62 pounds.

RE...lack of a guard. A. This knife is too beautiful to actually USE !! B. The shape of the grip I think will provide plenty of purchase for the hand as long as the hand is gripping it strongly. C. If used in the thrust, the shortness of the grip will prevent the hand slipping forward, if the knife is properly held. It's a beautiful knife Sam. Congratulations.

That's a real beauty, Sam. I agree that it might look and handle a bit better with a longer grip. But I like it without the guard. It reminds me of some of the early American fur-trade era knives of the 1820s-40s. It should carry very comfortably in a 2/3rds coverage leather sheath tucked through the belt.
Congratz on finishing this one.

GHehehehe yeah that could happen >_> <_< >_> <_<.
Mike, great idea, I was thinking like a sheath similar to the pukko styles, where only a bit of handle is sticking up out above the top to grab onto.

Very nice. It might just be me but the blade profile looks like a mini Barong, which is pretty cool.
