Unpacking the sword was arguably more difficult than landing on Omaha Beach. I can confirm that the sword was repaired. Sadly, I found a hole in the side of the wood handle. So, it looks like I have to get my wood tools ready. Sure landing on Omaha Beach should be no big deal these days... we're no longer hangin' around there, mein Freund... xD

Soooo they fixed one bit and broke another? Looks like it. Fortunately, I have a perfect piece of wood at the ready to make a handle.

Looking forward to seeing what sort of handle you concoct for it. Glad that the sword is finally back in your hands.

That looks.... weird. Is the handle hollow!? You just can't see the tang very well. It's in there. I'm not sure how this happened, but my best guess is there was a flaw in the wood. I think this was just rotten luck, but they could have noticed this and changed it before they sent it to me.

Here is a question I would pose to you all:
Should I?
A. Ask some wonderful person like Driggers or Jimbo Curry if they would like to create a new handle for this sword? The benefits of doing this would be apparent. Not only would I get a new handle, but I could possibly have a peened assembly. BKS included a threaded peen blocker at the top. You could tighten the assembly and then peen everything together. One of these folks could also shim up the crossguard really good. It's rattling like hell and I don't know how to fix it. Sonny Suttles said a couple drops of gorilla glue can help.
B. Make a new handle myself and attempt to seat the guard more tightly on my own?

You could always give it a go yourself first then send it off to someone else if you aren't happy with the result.

I would send a photo to BKS, but certainly not the sword, and point out that wasn’t how they received it. I think that I read that they returned it as received. I don’t know your skill level but that would be a good learning exercise if nothing else. And then if not satisfied with your work send it to a professional, not BKS, and let them repair BKS’ screw up. It’s hard to tell from the photo but I declare the wall of that grip look awful thin.

That's solid advice. It's a sticky situation. They sent it back damaged, but I think I would actually prefer a different handle anyway. I want to do things to personalize it and make it mine and not theirs. Does that seem silly?

I want to do things to personalize it and make it mine and not theirs. Does that seem silly? Not at all! At this point I'd just be done with BKS and forge ahead on a different path. Depending how comfortable you are with wood carving, it could actually be a fun project to put a very personal touch on the sword. And like others mentioned, you can always default to having another take a stab at it

Well I can tell you one thing for sure, one of their swords will never be part of my collection. To mess up like this then return the sword even more damaged is ridiculous. If you don't mind show a picture of the repaired tang, curious to see how they did there.

I'm of the same mind Gunnar, I saw how they treated customers on the sbg project years ago, decided there and then they would never see a dollar of my money.

Well they have time to research antique falchions and make one for youtubers!
But they can't fix a sword without breaking the grip!?!?! Screw BKS.

Well, that is a pretty poor result.Yes the tang is fixed but to send it back with the handle like that shows the disdain the company has for the customer.

I wasn't a member of the forum back then i guess I don't want to dig up old news, but I will say they missed a great opportunity to turn my opinion around and make this a win win for all concerned, at least they did do the repair as they said they would.
