I don't think that's a coincidence. He may have been ironic there, it's hard to say, darn too many serious people.
As a famous man once said: 'Why so serious?'

Here are a few ideas I am mulling over while I wait for the sword:
1. Since they went Hollywood (in a manner of speaking), I think the folks at BKS may have become too big for their breeches, as the saying goes.
2. I suppose I don't deserve an apology because I had the effrontery to take this up with the law.
3. This was not an ordinary commission, but it was a commission nonetheless. As a member of this community, I have the experience to know what I should expect from commissioned work in this business. From the beginning I knew that I could potentially wait six months to a year, or perhaps even longer for this work to be complete. Ultimately, I did not wait long for the work to be finished; the work was finished by October 6th of last year per Mr. Stagmer.
4. Should I have been treated with the same degree of respect as a paying customer? Unequivocally: YES. The fact that this sword was purchased second hand is not even relevant. The fact remains that I asked Mr. Stagmer if his forge would be willing to repair the sword and he agreed to do so GRATIS. This repair job could have cost $15, $1,500 or 15 cents, but I suppose the fact that he agreed to do so for free indicated to me that he was willing to honor his commitment to stand by the quality of his work. It also implied that he wanted me, the owner, to be happy with the sword.
5. I am in awe by the success of BKS. One cannot achieve their level of commercial success without having talent or without having produced many amazing works. They have fulfilled potentially hundreds of commissions jobs in the past and there is little doubt in my mind that they work hard. Having said that, I don't think they can afford to treat ANY customer like this, especially one as vocal as me. This was a travesty of customer service, plain and simple.

The fact that you had to go to the law to even get a shipping label imo means that you deserve an apology in its own merit. Imagine having to call the police because the mechanic won't give you your car back.
The law is a not tool of offense.
They agreed to do the repair, It's moronic that they took that long.

I am very happy for you that your sword is coming back to you.
I hope the repair was completed and the end result is up to your expectations.

I appreciate this thread. It has saved me the potential headache of ever needing to interact with Baltimore Knife and Sword Co's customer service. There are plenty of other talented smiths more deserving of my money.

The threaded portion of the tang snapped off when I assembled the hilt components. They offered to increase the size of the tang overall and increase the diameter of the threaded portion.
Here is a picture of the damage:

Communication is always important, but action was needed since October 6. Action in the form of shipping. If this sword is returned without any repairs, I will, as it was suggested to me in this thread, nuke from orbit.

So...great craftsman, poor businessman. Or at least thats the moral so far. I do know every business can't make *everyone* happy, you just may have been 'that guy' which sucks. Hopefully all will be well, or at least you get everything back in the condition you sent it. My fingers are crossed for ya.

Well, bad karma is a seed that can grow. A simple apology could stop that growth, but I guess I am unworthy of one. Still, if the repairs are done, and they aren't lying to me, I should have a favorable outcome in any case.

Do what you have to do at this point. I didn't want to see anything from this thread further delay or complicate your options. Once the package arrives, do as thou wilt. I still hope for the most positive outcome possible and that you will be happily surprised once you cut the tape.

Wow just now reading this thread for the first time; what a dang roller coaster. Sounds like an infuriating situation, but I'm glad the sword is finally on its way back. Can't wait for the big conclusion!

I fear the worst, for surely they have learned the true nature of the box now. Oh, lebleuchevalier, what hast thou wrought upon us?
On a serious note: huzzah! Let's hope it's fully repaired. And if not, at the very least there's several VERY talented folk on this forum who could fix her up. (I imagine Wes-lonely wolf forge- or Driggers could fix/enhance that for you pretty easily).

The sword has arrived and is available for me to pick up. I am finishing my coffee at the moment and will be en route to get it. So I will have an answer shortly.

Unpacking the sword was arguably more difficult than landing on Omaha Beach. I can confirm that the sword was repaired. Sadly, I found a hole in the side of the wood handle. So, it looks like I have to get my wood tools ready.
