What does anyone have to say about these? I may switch my practices from sword to rope dart. I am making one starting today.

So far I cut the huge end off of a rail road spike. I just have to shape it and drill a hole in it. Then add rings, rope and a red flag/bandanna of sorts.

The rope dart and meteor hammer are the hardest weapons to master, they are not to hard to learn to use but to master them takes years. I personally love the rope dart, I like any weapon that requires twirling.

I loved that scene in Shanghai Noon were Jacki Chan ties a horshoe to a rope and kicks butt with it. seems like the same sort of weapon. very, very cool stuff but I wouln't know where to begin to use it. but that's why we have dojos and mine will teach me some similar weapons eventually.

The rope dart and the meteor hammer are much the same except the meteor hammer is designed to crush skulls and break bones, the rope dart is designed to penetrate.

I just tried my temporary practice rope dart out, and it is an easy weapon to use effectively, but I would not dare test my cheesy skills at a wushu competition.

What is a desired weight for a rope dart? What are the benefits of a heavier rope dart? Does it fly any better? My practice rope dart is very light and I am wondering if that is why it doesn't fly off of my foot as fast as it normally flies.

I have a rope dart of sorts, and it's hella fun to use, though I prefer the sword.

One of my good friends back in my home town name was Kung-Fu Dave, he knew a crap load of martial arts stuff and a lot about a bunch of crazy/weird out of the ordinary weapons and stuff. he had a chain that was like over 20 ft long i think. he had like 5 or 6 different things he could put on the end of it. Spike, Hook, Mace Ball, grappling hook, this scythe thing, and a weird fork prong thing. anyways ive seen him twirl the spike around and kick it across his yard and sink it like 5 or 6 inches into a big oak tree. it was really impressive. he had a 10 foot spear haft that he had like these awesome different spear heads and axe/hammer heads he could put on the ends. he showed me a lot of really badass moves and stuff. i used to go over there and spar with him. im 6 foot 3 and he made me feel small. he was like 6 foot 7 i think...he had a huge head. lol. i miss training with him. he was a great teacher. i had to move.
